Job title: Junior Lines Design Engineer E.I.T

Job description: Valard Construction LP is one of Canada’s largest powerline contractors, serving clients in both public & private sectors. We offer construction services in overhead and underground transmission and distribution systems, substations, fibre optics, as well as substation and transmission foundations. Reporting to the Engineering Manager, the Junior or Intermediate Lines Designer is responsible for the design, and co-ordination of transmission & distribution overhead projects ranging from 4kV to 500kV.

Multiple positions may be available, and the position may be based out of Valard’s Calgary, Edmonton, or Winnipeg Offices.

Requirements

Key Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Design of overhead and underground transmission & distribution systems ranging from 4kV to 500kV using industry standards and client standards
  • Layout, structure spotting, and non-linear analysis using PLS-CADD suite of software
  • Selection of various line components – conductor, structures, insulators, and hardware
  • Prepare design packages for construction
  • Prepare bills of materials
  • Develop plan & profile drawings of overhead lines
  • Develop material and construction specifications
  • Perform calculations related to the design of overhead systems
  • Project co-ordination for transmission and distribution projects
  • Assist in the preparation of bids and proposals
  • Provide construction support

Education and Experience:

  • Bachelor’s degree or Technology Diploma in Electrical, Civil, or Mechanical Engineering
  • Experience with electric utilities and CSA C22.3 No. 1 Overhead Systems is considered an asset
  • Experience in an EPC environment is considered an asset
  • Experience in a construction environment is considered an asset
  • Experience with Power Line Systems software including PLS-CADD and PLS-POLE is considered an asset
  • Experience with AutoCAD and Microstation is considered an asset
  • Demonstrated technical writing and interpersonal skills; excellent communication, organizational and interpersonal skills

Additional Information:

  • Maintain a class 5 driver’s license in good standing
  • Travel to various areas within Canada is required for site visits, meetings, and construction support
