Job description: The School of Computing, Electronics and Mathematics is looking for a lecturer or senior lecturer (assistant professor) in AI and Data Science.

The Faculty of Engineering, Environment and Computing at Coventry University is one of the largest in the UK and is nationally and internationally renowned as a centre of innovation for its teaching, learning and research in computing subject areas. The School of Computing, Electronics and Mathematics is one of three schools within the faculty and has a very successful suite of courses supported by excellent staff, teaching facilities and laboratories. The school is responsible for the development of a thriving portfolio of teaching and research. We offer undergraduate degrees in Business Information Technology, Computer Science, Computing, Ethical Hacking and Cybersecurity, Games Technology and Data Science. Our postgraduate courses include Data Science and Computational Intelligence, Computer Science, and Cyber Security as well as a conversion course in Data Science.

As the School’s Data Science courses are showing rapid growth and we are interested in expanding the Data Science team in the areas of:

  • AI/Machine Learning
  • Data Science
  • Computer Vision and Natural Language process
  • AI for Cyber physical Systems
  • Statistical and Computational Modelling
  • Digital Health

It is expected that this position will focus on the AI/machine learning aspects of Data science, although an understanding of other aspects of Data science is essential.

You will be responsible for the delivery and support of learning, teaching and assessment at undergraduate and postgraduate level. You will work closely with the course teams to help provide the high-quality learning environment our students expect. You will need to share our passion for delivering a positive student experience that puts excellence in teaching and learning at the heart of everything.

Applicants should hold a PhD degree in Computer Science, Statistics, Data Science or related subject. Membership of the HEA with experience of working in higher education is desirable. Good programming skills in one of R, Python or MATLAB is essential.

There is an opportunity for a suitable candidate with an appropriate research record to join the Centre for Computational Science and Mathematical Modelling (CSM). Some of research interests, the centre would like to develop include:

  • Explainable Artificial Intelligence, i.e. the development of technologies to explain / simplify / justify AI decisions to humans; and
  • Automated Machine Learning, i.e. the development of entire ML pipelines to automatically build appropriate models with minimal human contribution.
  • Novel methods for classification and pattern recognition
  • Reinforcement learning, application of data science and machine learning to industrial processes and robotics
  • GPU algorithms for AI
