Overview of the opportunity
KPMG’s Office of General Counsel (“OGC”) is excited to add a new technology contracting lawyer to its growing in-house legal team. OGC handles all legal matters impacting KPMG, including litigation and dispute resolution, contracting, regulatory and compliance, and governance and operations. This is an exciting opportunity to join a dynamic, high-caliber in-house legal team in a thriving and progressive international organization.
What you will do
- Reporting to the Assistant General Counsel, Technology, you will join a team of OGC lawyers and contract managers who advise KPMG business teams across Canada on the review, negotiation and drafting of a wide range of commercial contracts.
- You will work closely with business teams and internal stakeholders (including audit, advisory, tax, digital, procurement, IT security and risk management) to assess, review and negotiate commercial contracts with a technology focus, including master services agreements with the firm’s clients, software licensing and subscription agreements with the firm’s suppliers and vendors, and technology alliance and reseller arrangements.
- You will advise the business on key contractual terms with a view to collaboratively assessing legal and business risk within the context of firm policy and market practice.
- You will provide practical business-oriented legal advice and solutions on contracting matters.
- You will coordinate with internal stakeholders and specialists regarding risk management, privacy, litigation, regulatory compliance, data security, and information technology issues.
- You will actively participate in the efficient functioning of a high-performing in-house legal team by adopting digital tools and strategies, driving innovation, and contributing to process improvements.
- You will support, and be supported and mentored by, senior members of the contracting team with a sincere interest in your professional development, long-term career, and well-being.
What you bring to the role
- You have a J.D. or LL. B and are licensed to practice law in any Canadian province.
- You have 3-6 years of post-call corporate/commercial experience with a leading law firm and/or in-house legal department, with a focus on technology contracting.
- Experience with public sector technology contracts/RFPs will be considered an asset.
