Reporting to the Sr. Director of IT, the Manager, IT Building Technologies will hold a transformational leadership role within the Information Technology Team. This role will help build the enterprise roadmap toward a vision of technology standardization in all of Extendicare’s LTC, Esprit and Paramed locations. The role will support the IT scope of new development/construction process while maintaining excellent relationships between all internal/external stakeholder groups.

The Manager, IT Building Technologies will help identify strategies and opportunities to reduce costs by helping improve IT and construction processes, services and vision through the analysis of various data points from a variety of sources.

As the Manager, Building Technologies, Information Technology you will:

  • Engage preconstruction in preparing, revising, and monitoring costs involved in developing project budgets within IT scope of ownership.
  • Take ownership of projects with high degree of interactions with other department stakeholders, vendors, and local management teams. Define project scope, performance measures, governance, requirements and resource needs.
  • Manage project dependencies and work with other IT Teams and Extendicare departments to avoid project scheduling conflicts
  • Oversee the estimating process for projects while mitigating risks/Oversee the contracting process, which includes facilitating initial scope review meetings, finalizing agreed processes, developing contract scopes of work and final execution process.
  • Partner with business teams and IT stakeholder groups to ensure operational needs are addressed and solutions are implemented on a regional and/or national scale
  • Ensure that project schedules, milestone dates, and closeout checklists are prepared and maintained during project lifecycle.
  • Establish relationships with suppliers and other key project personnel to ensure needed materials, supplies, tools, equipment, and personnel are provided where necessary, while directing and approving project resources as required.
  • Facilitate and/or conduct predictive preconstruction WIFI surveys and physical WIFI surveys post construction
  • Work with IT Management on a national strategy related to ISP and residential services contracts for the entire Extendicare portfolio of sites
  • Work with external 3rd party vendors and internal project teams for the coordination of IT services and residential technology services installations (including but not limited to structured cabling, nurse call systems, phone systems, biometrics, television, and internet)
  • Development of a building technologies standards specification that will be used for renovations and new development/construction projects
  • Develop regular status reports for IT department leadership and construction team.
  • Applies expertise and thinks creatively to address unique or ambiguous situations and to find solutions to problems that can be complex and non-routine.
  • Work with IT teams to ensure operational readiness in transition of new sites to day-to-day operations
  • Some operations support as it pertains to building technologies.
  • Other duties as necessary

What You Bring

  • University degree or college diploma in information technology related discipline, or equivalent related work experience
  • Project management experience (5-7 years) including project budgeting/forecasting experience
  • PMP certification highly preferred but not required
  • Previous work experience with IT infrastructure and networks (3-5 years) preferred
  • Must be able to handle multiple high-profile and high-value projects in any given time
  • PMP certification highly preferred but not required
  • Ability to communicate technical terms to non-technical team members
  • Ability to read and understand construction drawings, floor plans and low voltage diagrams – Required
  • Understanding of nurse call systems and other life safety systems will be a definite asset
  • Experience working with Service Management tools such as ServiceNow
  • Demonstrated strong organization, planning, scheduling, and reporting skills
  • Strong vendor management experience
  • Microsoft knowledge – Office365, Excel, Word, Power Point, Visio, Project
  • Exceptional influencing, leadership, and motivational skills
  • Previous experience in senior healthcare industry will be a strong asset
  • Strong English written and verbal communication skills in dealing with owner groups, trades and consultants
  • Valid G driver’s license in good standing
  • Some travel within Canada (~10%)
