Role
The Office of the Chief Judge of the Provincial Court is seeking a seasoned IT professional with experience translating complicated business needs into action.
Understanding the business needs of the Provincial Court Judiciary, you will be responsible for the ongoing interface between the Provincial Court Judiciary and Information Management components of Justice and Solicitor General and Court Technology Services, ensuring that the business needs of the Court are integrated into functional requirements for effective and productive business support systems.
In this position, you will play a leading role in supporting the information management needs of the Court and advocating for systems that will provide effective and productive business support systems. You will provide advice and recommendations respecting the interests of the Provincial Court in such matters as e-Courts, Provincial Court Scheduling, CASES, JOIN, Judicial Information Security Policy, Business Intelligence, as well as Web and Social Media development. You will support the Information Technology and Web Subcommittee of the Court and serve as the conduit between the court and IMT services and projects.
Other responsibilities include, but are not limited to:
- Understanding the business issues and data challenges of the Provincial Court and other court services
- Proactively monitoring the use of current applications and advocating alternative solutions, technologies and usages to increase business performance
- Leading and providing expertise in structuring the gathering, storing and accessing of information/data to facilitate Court planning and program development
- Using a variety of methodologies to elicit user requirements: interviews, document analysis, requirements workshops, surveys, site visits, business process descriptions, business case scenarios, and tasks and workflow analysis, etc.
- Critically evaluating information gathered from multiple sources, reconciling conflicts, synthesizing information, and distinguishing user requests from underlying needs
- Preparing business cases and requirements documentation outlining project definitions, functional specifications, initial cost assessment, benefit analysis, impact assessment and integration with other projects, products and services
- Evaluating results and determining where user expectations have not been met and negotiating with IMT any corrective action
- Providing expertise in the development and updating of standards, policies and procedures related to information management, security and operations of Court systems and databases
- Leading the documentation of business rules under which information is transformed, stored and disseminated
- Facilitating the development and delivery of information session to familiarize users with the benefits and functionality of retrieval tools, formats, and systems
As the successful candidate you must possess strong interpersonal and communication skills to articulate technology to all levels of stakeholders. Strong collaboration, facilitation and negotiation skills are required to balance expectations between business needs and IMT capacity. Strong leadership and project management skills are essential to manage a number of initiatives simultaneously. Discretion and diplomacy are required to process sensitive and confidential information.
Qualifications
University degree in a related field (Information Management, Statistical Analysis, Computing Science, Information Technology, or Business Administration/Management) supplemented by a minimum of four years’ related experience working in the courts, court services, public administration or legal industry experience. Project management experience is required. Equivalencies will be considered.
Equivalency: Directly related education or experience considered on the basis of:
1 year of education for 1 year of experience; or 1 year of experience for 1 year of education.

Salary
$3,062.51 – $4,121.25 biweekly ($79,931.00 – $107,464.00 yearly)

The Courts’ COVID Vaccination Policy requires all staff to be fully vaccinated to access courtrooms and court workplaces in the Alberta courthouses effective November 1, 2021.
This position works Monday to Friday, 8:15AM-4:30PM, 36.25 hours a week.
