Job description: The opportunity

The Corporate Accounting group deals with the preparation of annual financial statements, management and maintenance of the Lawson General Ledger.

The Manager, Corporate Accounting will lead the preparation of annual financial statements for a number of subsidiaries in various jurisdictions in their functional currency, assist with the review of auditor requests. Prepare monthly RCA cash flows for Investments and Actuarial (S&R) and subsidiaries cash flow for capital contributions. You will also support the Tax department and EY in reviewing and understanding the GST and VAT returns for subsidiaries. You will also play an integral role with new GL system implementation, operational improvement projects and initiatives relating to Corporate Accounting.

Who you’ll work with

You will work closely with Senior Manager Corporate Accounting, Corporate Accounting team, and Corporate Finance team members. The Manager, Corporate Accounting will also get exposure to the regional leaders and team members.

What you’ll do

Manage and maintain Lawson General Ledger system, Lawson Asset Management module and capitalized assets/WIP procedures, including reporting Plan’s capital expenditures to Stats Canada

Coordinate the pension payroll functions, issue tax slips to plan members at year end, and report taxes withheld and paid at year end for CRA

Prepare monthly financial statements for international offices in order to help file FRR on a monthly basis to SFC for Honk Kong office

Work closely with tax and EY for UK VAT related tax remittances and/or payments

Work closely with tax and EY for Singapore GST remittances and filings

Coordinate and prepare mid-year and year end accruals for Ontario Teachers’ and subsidiaries; this will include ensuring there is valid support as per the accounting guidelines and managing with senior staff within divisions.

Lead or participate in special projects by providing the required technical, accounting and financial reporting specification

Develop current staff by ensuring adequate training is provided, cross training opportunities are explored, and ongoing professional development is achieved

What you’ll need

5-7 years’ experience in accounting/finance department, including supervisory experience

Relevant university degree, including CPA

An understanding of International Financial Reporting Standards (IFRS)

Working knowledge of GAAP for pension plans and reporting under other accounting standards such as UK FRS, HKIFRS is helpful

Very good knowledge and practical understanding of accounting theory

Understanding of Teachers’ Pension Plan and pension plan environment is preferred

Previous experience with system implementation and technology upgrade will definitely be an asset

Effective interpersonal skills both written and verbal to prepare reports and liaise with contacts inside and outside the Plan
