Job title: Manager, Finance
Job description: We are looking for a Manager, Finance based in our Toronto office. This finance role is responsible for managing the day-to-day accounting and financial duties, budget/forecast preparation, and reporting on financial operations. In addition to this role will also be responsible for the Canadian affiliate payroll and benefit administration on a bi-weekly basis, as well as the administration of HR programs as they relate to payroll. It is anticipated that this role will transition over time and take a lead role in financial reporting with expanded responsibilities.
Job summary:
- Payroll and benefits administration, and HR programs related to payroll.
- Lead on reporting for COGS, operating expenses and compliance activities.
- Manage and execute on actuals reporting and analysis, responsibility for monthly and quarterly accounting activities and compliance with local and Corporate regulations.
- Ensures corporate and indirect tax compliance, including preparation of tax return and audit defense.
- Budgeting and Forecasting of internal expenses.
- Financial business partner to Human Resources.
Specific accountabilities:
P&L Management – Ensuring accuracy and maintaining integrity of the P&L
- Preparing all non-revenue related journal entries
- Account reconciliations – monthly and quarterly reconciliations
- Maintain external expense templates and participate in monthly external expense review meetings with cost centre owners
- Reviewing COGS/PSP costs, monthly variance reporting, reviewing of coding to ensure accuracy
- Ensure compliance with accounting policies and regulatory requirements
Payroll and Benefits Administration
- Bi-weekly payroll and benefit administration, including leave administration
- Review and track employee reimbursements (i.e. tutition reimbursement, fitness reimbursement, ergonomic equipment subsidies, vacation tracking)
- Managing Canada Life and Manulife: invoice reconcilations, plan administrator for all employee activity, including program audits
- Monthly & quarterly payroll accruals
- Year end payroll activities: T4s, taxable benefits, filings, etc.
- Primary contact for: global mobility and taxation matters; Fieldglass
- New hire onboarding for payroll and benefits
Tax
- Quarterly HST (T&E) allocation and review, with journal entries
- Monthly HST Filings
- Annual income tax return preparation and review, liaison with tax consultants, where necessary
- Tax related requests, where necessary
Budget and Forecasting
- Budgeting and forecasting of Internal costs (payroll, travel, meetings, benefits, etc.)
- Reconciliations of changes forecast vs forecast and vs actuals
- Headcount tracking vs budget
Other
- Participate in the CI movement looking at ways to drive efficiencies through process improvement and automation
- Automation of reconciliations into Blackline
Qualifications
· Bachelor degree in Business, Finance or related discipline
· CPA or equivalent designation
· 5-7 years of directly related experience in finance as well as payroll and benefits administration
· Current knowledge of CRA guidelines for corporate taxes and payroll matters
· Demonstrated detail orientation, organizational skills and problem solving skills; ability to multi-task on a consistent basis
· Ability to synthesize large quantities of complex data into actionable information
· Self motivation and initiative with ability to meet tight timelines on a consistent basis
· Strong interpersonal, written and communication skills with ability to work effectively with all key stakeholders across the organization, within the affiliate and above country
· Excellent business judgment, analytical, and decision-making skills
· Demonstrated capability to work with and maintain confidential information
