We’re looking for someone to join our team for this permanent management opportunity – someone who is familiar with the performing arts, film, tourism, or hospitality industries, has experience managing teams, and shares our passion for workplace health and safety. As our Manager, OHS Consultation and Education Services, you’ll lead a team that partners and consults with industry stakeholders to improve workplace health and safety for workers. If you have experience in the performing arts, film, tourism, or hospitality industries, and are dedicated to developing industry-wide safety strategies, we want to hear from you. You and your team will develop outreach and education programs, support funding and incentive programs, provide consultative services to individual employers, and develop a wide variety of educational products and services. Your work will prevent injuries and disease, strengthen safety culture, and improve outcomes for those who are injured at work.

What you’ll do

As the OHS Consultation and Education Services manager, you will:

  • Provide leadership to identify and implement innovative occupational health and safety initiatives that mobilize and support industry stakeholders to improve workplace health and safety
  • Lead a team to deliver consultative services to individual employers, and their worker representatives
  • Research, recommend, evaluate, and monitor industry-related projects and funding proposals
  • Provide occupational health and safety knowledge, expertise, and guidance to our staff and external stakeholders
  • Network and build partnerships with internal and external stakeholders
  • Develop innovative industry-wide occupational health and safety strategies
  • Work directly with industry associations, the public sector, and employer and labour representatives
  • Work directly with WorkSafeBC’s certifying partners to ensure the quality of the Certificate of Recognition (COR) program

We’re looking for someone who can:

  • Provide occupational health and safety knowledge expertise and guidance to WorkSafeBC staff and stakeholders
  • Lead a team by guiding, coaching, developing, empowering, and motivating staff
  • Encourage innovation and creative thinking within your team
  • Demonstrate superior verbal and written communication skills to engage audiences – including the delivery of media interviews – and articulate ideas and direction to promote trust and commitment
  • Maintain positive, client-focused relationships with internal and external customers in order to facilitate the ongoing success of key initiatives
  • Take accountability and deliver expected outcomes in a high volume and constantly changing environment

Your experience and educational background:

  • A university degree in a related field
  • A minimum of six years of experience in the performing arts, film, tourism, or hospitality industries
  • A minimum of three years of recent management experience
  • Working knowledge of project management practices and applications
  • Proficiency in computer applications, such as word processing and spreadsheets
  • Experience and education in occupational health and safety principles and programs is a definite asset

Equivalent combinations of education and experience may be considered.
