Position Summary
Ancillary Services operates undergraduate and graduate student housing on the St. George campus. Our residences include Graduate House and Chestnut Residence, with two new residences currently in development: Sussex-Spadina, and Harbord Residence. Ancillary Services’ residences provide programming and services designed to foster personal growth and maximize the potential for student success.
Working under the general direction of the Director of Residence Operations, the Manager of Finance, Operations and Administration takes a leadership role in developing and implementing short and long-term strategic and financial plans, provides financial guidance to senior management, and is fiscally responsible for the day-to-day operations of the residence. The incumbent develops plans, business processes, and other initiatives to improve the operational and administrative effectiveness of the residence, increase revenue, and enhance service delivery. The Manager of Finance, Operations and Administration manages and oversees the implementation and monitoring of the operating budget, and works collaboratively with residence management and other managers across the University to ensure high quality outcomes in the areas of residence space management, information technology management, facilities management and renewal, and procurement. The incumbent has full managerial authority over the staff directly reporting to them.
Qualifications
I. EDUCATION:
University Degree, preferably graduate degree, or acceptable combination of education and experience. CMA or CGA designation an asset. Project Management certification an asset.
II. EXPERIENCE:
A minimum of 5 years related working experience ideally in roles that combine financial and facilities management with teaching or student services. Experience leading and managing people preferably in a unionized environment. Good knowledge of the University. Strong understanding of student needs and problems. Experience with forecasting and developing operational budgets, project planning and project management.
III. SKILLS:
Proven organizational, interpersonal, administrative, and managerial skills. Proven project management skills. The ability to develop, interpret and apply policies and procedures. Strong analytical skills including financial and operational analysis. Excellent aptitude and familiarity with budget spreadsheets including annual forecasts and multi-year projections. Excellent written and oral communication skills.
IV. OTHER:
Must be accessible to the residence to attend to emergencies outside normal office hours. The ability to make complex decisions under pressure. The ability to deal tactfully with sensitive and confidential issues. Ability to interact effectively with individuals at all levels of the University as well as externally.
An appreciation of academic values and commitment to student development. Willingness to work irregular hours to accommodate student requirements and activities as necessary.
