The opportunity

The Manager is responsible for the design, development, testing, and maintenance of enterprise data platforms supporting the delivery of technology services and solutions to customers. This includes striking an appropriate balance between achieving near-term results, achieving longer-term efficiencies and managing risks.

Who you’ll work with

The Manager will directly manage a team of Software Developers within Solution & Quality Engineering and will report to the Senior Manager.

What you’ll do

  • Responsible for application architecture, technical architecture, design and development of solutions; including infrastructure technologies, frameworks, tools, and integration with 3rd party products for the applicable Line of Business portfolio of applications.
  • Responsible for immediate team’s alignment to standards, practices and procedures to ensure that solutions are designed and developed according to agreed upon methodologies. Assurance is attained through group education & training, regular project and implementation reviews, and automation/assertion via enabling technology.
  • Make certain that risks associated with the ongoing maintenance and support of in-house developed systems/services/applications and integration with 3rd party solutions are identified and raised as necessary.
  • Understand the Line of Business specific requirements in order to guarantee the needs are addressed by using appropriate solutions and technology
  • Act as a contributor in the acquisition process of key systems and in the review of technology fit and supportability – and with system vendors for any joint development efforts.
  • Ensure external sourcing providers deliver services and solutions in an effective and supportable manner.
  • Lead a highly skilled and diverse group of information technology professionals
  • Provide a technical and application perspective to business and IT partners
  • Specialist in effective application architecture and design to support associated business requirements for agility and maintainability
  • Effective in team management functions – in both direct and matrix settings – exercising sound judgment, management and problem-solving skills.
  • Review industry perspectives on IT, financial services, application lifecycle tools and techniques, and general technology trends to advise planning.
  • Exercise effective critical thinking in balancing short-term tactical delivery of solutions with long term plans that promote solution agility and maintainability.
  • Accountable for the efficient operation, growth and continuous improvement of a work team’s capabilities
  • As a key participant in the Software Development Lifecycle (SDLC) across Investment IT, this role will be accountable for identifying challenges in its continued applicability and integration across groups.
  • Exceptional verbal and written communication skills are required. This includes coaching, mentoring, presentation, conflict resolution, negotiation, and expectation leadership skills.
  • Ability to understand and communicate complex concepts with various levels of OTPP staff including IT staff as well as non-technical staff.
  • The position provides leadership, coaching and mentoring as well as performance feedback to staff.
  • Responsible for Leadership development by contributing in Talent Management initiatives and engaging in appropriate development planning activities
  • Provides appropriate opportunities for staff within the group to exercise leadership in decision making
  • Cultivates a collaborative team-based approach in building a culture of willingness, creativity, and high performance.
  • Work with moderate supervision and is proactive in soliciting management direction and in raising significant issues. Demonstrates a willingness to take on responsibility and is able to execute autonomously

What you’ll need

  • Minimum of 7 years of experience in the Information Technology industry, an undergraduate degree in Computer Science.
  • Minimum of 5 years of experience in technical solution design, delivery, and support in the context of Data Management applications such as an Enterprise Data Warehouse, Vendor Data Management, and Job Scheduling; with a minimum of 3 years in a lead developer capacity.
  • A solid understanding of current development processes, standards, and tooling is required. This includes analysis and design techniques and tools, development techniques, testing approaches and deployment methods. Leader in Agile Methodology and continuous build, deployment, and testing techniques.

Experience leading teams through DevOps and Agile driven transformations that include sophisticated branching and merging strategies, robust CI/CD pipelines, and automated testing practices, tailored to the individual technologies, both platform-based and object- oriented programming languages. * Expert knowledge gained through extensive experience and success in delivering solutions, with practical experience in the Solution Development Lifecycle; complemented with a detailed understanding object-oriented development, software platforms, connectivity solutions, databases, middleware, could computing, etc.

  • Experience in implementing and maintaining business solutions using tools such as MarkitEDM, Microsoft SSIS, Automic, C# WebAPI Services, MSSQL, Oracle, Messaging systems (ActiveMQ and TIBCO EMS), as well as knowledge in how to evolve the technology stack of the tools listed (such as evolution of .NET to .NET Core).
  • Knowledge and experience with different aspects of the life cycle of a project – including task definition and assignment, communication, managing team dynamics, scheduling, monitoring, and motivation.
  • Maintains a sound knowledge of the Investment Industry and a thorough understanding of the OTPP business objectives, processes and practices related to the Investments customers.
  • Solid understanding of general investment management and data management processes and practices as applicable for the Line of Business under responsibility.
  • Managerial talent – especially in the area of technical professional staff management, and talent development. Actively seeks opportunities to enhance leadership skills, leads by example, and encourages others to reach their full potential.
  • Experience in leading initiatives through the full software development process – from conception to completion – with demonstrable ability to assume a leadership role in coordinating activities, scheduling, and project control
