The opportunity

As the Managing Director, Technology Infrastructure, you will be responsible for executing on a Cloud-first strategy that will boldly transform the Technology Infrastructure organization and the technical assets it manages over the next 5 years.

Who you’ll work with

Reporting to the Senior Managing Director and Chief Information Officer, you will lead an organization comprised of more than 100 employees and a global Managed Services team delivering infrastructure build and run services, including data center services, end user services, and product / application support services. Supporting offices in Toronto, London, Hong Kong, Singapore, San Francisco and New York, you will oversee the work of regional Technology Infrastructure teams in London, Hong Kong and Singapore, but with the majority of your team based in Toronto.

As a member of CIO’s Information Technology executive team, you are also responsible for providing thought leadership, direction and resources to support the achievement of our IT Vision through a combination of initiatives and the continuous improvement of the capabilities and services provided by IT as a whole.

What you’ll do

Define / lead the development of our strategic direction, which is currently the migration of our largely on-premises technology assets to cloud based solutions (SaaS, PaaS, and IaaS) over the next 5 years. Drive the implementation aligned to that strategy, which will require the transformation of the Technology Infrastructure organization in support of this strategy.

Select, sponsor and deliver large technology infrastructure investments with multi-year implications.

Ensure there is understanding of available infrastructure technologies, industry trends, key vendor offerings, industry best practices and their potential benefits and uses at OTPP.

Ensure that new capabilities that can provide new business benefits are appropriately identified, evaluated selected and implemented.

Develop and evolve OTPP’s strategy in relation to our Managed Services provider while leading the service provider relationship to ensure that Teachers’ acquires the anticipated value on an ongoing basis.

What you’ll need

15+ years’ experience in the IT industry with a focus on technology infrastructure, and a minimum of 7 years at a management/executive level.

Demonstrated excellence in talent management by developing and leading senior technology managers/directors and experts across multiple infrastructure technology disciplines.

An extensive successful track record of delivering complex technology projects.

A consistent track record of working with the executives of external vendors to ensure OTPP’s requirements and interests are addressed

A significant understanding, and experience operating, infrastructure related processes including incident management, change management, release management and problem management.

A solid understanding of the technical function and professional management of many infrastructure technologies, including PaaS and IaaS Cloud (Azure preferably), and ideally practical experience of the challenges of migrating from on-premises to cloud-based infrastructure

Excellent communicator, demonstrating strong interpersonal, collaboration and presentation skills.
