Job description: The Mental Health Clinician (MHC) will be part of the Outpatient Mental Health (OPMH) team in the St. Joseph’s Mental Health & Addictions program. The MHC will be primarily working within the Psychiatric Day Hospital. They may also be required to work in other clinics of OPMH.
The Psychiatric Day Hospital is a partial hospitalization program for clients of St. Joe’s who require mental health stabilization. Clients receive individual and group support from our staff.
The MHC will provide comprehensive psychosocial assessments, individual psychotherapy, group psychotherapy, psychoeducation, case management and discharge planning.
The MHC, in collaboration with the Day Hospital Team, will also be responsible for:
- Coordinating and updating of the group schedule
- Developing groups curriculum
- Liaising with Day Hospital guest group facilitators
This position reports to the Manager, Outpatient Mental Health.
Qualifications include:
- Must have a Master’s degree in health related field
- Member in good standing with relevant registered college
- Minimum 3 – 5 years’ direct experience in acute hospital and/or outpatient mental health setting
- Required knowledge of Mental Health Act and Personal Health Information Act
- Day Treatment/Day Hospital experience strongly preferred
- Demonstrated experience providing psychotherapies and supportive counseling. Preference will be given to those with experience providing ACT, DBT and CBT
- Demonstrated experience in developing, organizing and facilitating groups
- Demonstrated excellent knowledge of community resources and the ability to develop new connections with external services
- Demonstrated ability to facilitate appropriate transitions to external services in the context of a treatment window
- Demonstrated critical thinking /problem-solving skills and attention to detail is required
- Demonstrated ability to manage crisis situations
- Demonstrated ability to be a positive and productive member of a team while also being able to work independently
- Comfortable working with a broad range of client groups and their families/supports. Second language is an asset
- Experience participating in Quality Improvement initiatives or familiarity with quality improvement science
- Intermediate computer skills including Excel, Word, Zoom and email applications
- Satisfactory attendance record
