Mobility Network is an Institutional Strategic Initiative that convenes a multidisciplinary collaboration of researchers from across the University of Toronto. Its mission is to establish U of T as a global leader in advancing mobility-related knowledge while developing mobility solutions for achieving equity, sustainability and prosperity. Mobility Network organizes U of T’s exceptional disciplinary breadth and depth within Knowledge Clusters that collectively address equity, climate, technology, land use planning, goods movement, travel behaviour and governance. Clusters comprise highly diverse research teams that are demographically reflective of the broad U of T community. Activities in these seven intersecting Knowledge Clusters will naturally connect research excellence across the three campuses to catalyze new collaborations and grow and strengthen current research activities and capabilities.

Your opportunity:

A major Mobility Network goal is to provide the globally best training and mentorship experience for our trainees, including undergraduate and graduate students, postdoctoral fellows and research staff. During their thesis research, trainees are mentored in all aspects of the research processes involved in their Knowledge Cluster. In addition, by augmenting traditional classroom instruction and research activities, the Mobility Network Training, Mentoring and Professional Development Program (TMPDP), will make U of T the institution of choice for students and postdoctoral fellows seeking globally exceptional mobility professional and academic training. Example activities include workshops addressing a variety of topics, networking opportunities, an annual summer school, and undergraduate research awards, among others. In all training and mentorship activities, focus is maintained on ensuring an inclusive and welcoming environment that recognizes the diversity of the participants and seeks to constantly broaden the community that is engaged.

Reporting jointly to the Mobility Network Director and Executive Director, the Mobility Network Education Specialist will help plan the TMPDP activities and manage its day-to-day operations. You will work with the Events & Communications Coordinator on advertising and promoting TMPDP activities and you will work with the Network Administrator on financial aspects of the program. You will engage with Knowledge cluster leaders to plan cluster-specific TMPDP activities, as well as helping to coordinate activities across clusters. You will have the opportunity to co-create TMPDP activities and programs with Mobility Network faculty, our trainees and our community partners.

Your responsibilities will include:

  • Planning and implementing components of curricular and/or co-curricular programs and activities
  • Facilitating educational workshops and seminars
  • Planning and implementing components of continuing professional development programs and activities
  • Planning and overseeing the implementation of an evaluation framework for programs and initiatives
  • Conducting detailed analysis on program efficiency and student learning outcomes to inform program planning
  • Fostering cooperative working relationships with a wide variety of internal and external contacts
  • Coaching Mobility Network trainees in training and mentorship skills
  • Developing strategies that maximize outreach to students, alumni, and other strategic partners; Interpreting and applying policies and procedures when making independent decisions

Essential Qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s Degree in Engineering, Education or acceptable combination of equivalent experience.
  • Minimum four years experience in curriculum and program design and delivery.
  • Demonstrated ability to design experiential curriculum that prioritizes capacity building among students.
  • Demonstrated group facilitation skills.
  • Excellent communication skills (listening, speaking, presenting, writing).
  • Ability to manage a diverse, challenging and varying workload with multiple projects and deadlines.
  • Skill and sensitivity in working with diverse groups of people.
  • Enthusiastic self-starter with demonstrated ability to work independently, showing initiative and good judgment.
  • Ability to work collaboratively and thrive in a team environment.
  • Demonstrated commitment to equity, diversity, inclusion and the promotion of a respectful and collegial work environment.

Assets (Nonessential):

  • Masters degree in Adult Education, Leadership studies, Engineering education.
