Job title: Network Analyst Work Experience Student (Open City and Technology)

Job description: Up to 2 temporary full-time positions for 8 months intended specifically for students currently enrolled in an information technology, computer sciences, computer systems or related co-op or equivalent post-secondary work experience degree program, commencing in January 2022

Join the Network Services Team and get involved in challenging IT projects and activities. During the course of your term, you will be working with the Network Services Team primarily on the network infrastructure upgrade at City data center and various facilities, Wifi implementation, and participating in day-to-day support activities. This is an excellent opportunity to gain practical experience in a wide variety of data network technologies.

Responsibilities include:

  • Configure and install networking equipment, including routers, switches, wireless AP’s
  • Produce technical and procedural documents specific to Network services
  • Assist other Network Services team members in day-to-day support duties

Note: This position will be a combination of working from home and on-site working conditions. Working conditions will follow the Government of Alberta Health recommendations.

Qualifications

  • Currently enrolled in an information technology, computer sciences, computer systems or related co-op or equivalent post-secondary work experience degree program
  • Effective verbal and written communication skills and the ability to maintain strong working relationships
  • Demonstrated ability to conduct requirement analysis with proven attention to detail
  • Demonstrated knowledge of data networking technologies
  • Demonstrated ability using Google Workspace applications
  • Ability to work independently and make decisions in the absence of a supervisor
  • Ability to work independently and as a collaborative member of a team
  • Access to reliable high-speed internet while working from home
  • Familiarity with and previous use of various Cisco networking products is an asset

Hours of Work: 40 hours weekly, Monday – Friday
The weekly hours of work for this position are currently under review and may change at a future time. Any changes will be made in accordance with the City of Edmonton/Civic Service Union 52 collective agreement and the incumbent will be notified in advance.

Salary: $21.545 – $25.135 (Hourly)
