The OHS Technology Support Specialist is responsible for providing technical and business process expertise in the areas of business systems analysis and ongoing technical support and maintenance for the Occupational Health and Safety Management System (OHSMS). The OHSMS creates a standardized way of managing occupational health and safety (OHS) information and enables departments to manage their compliance requirements and risk management on a County wide platform.
Responsibilities
- Liaise with both leaders and OHS partners across departments to ensure the OHMS application is effectively deployed and utilized
- Manage, maintain and cleanse OHSMS system data (e.g. entering training requirements, creating new facilities and positions, entering new system users)
- Develop, deliver and maintain overall system training curriculum and materials, as well as material feedback mechanisms
- Analyze results and report on performance metrics to make recommendations for training improvements and changes as needed
- Establish and maintain a system to track training participants’ status and results
- Support human resources, senior leaders, managers and supervisors on OHS concerns:
- Interpret and implement changes necessary for compliance to OHS and WCB-Alberta legislative requirements
- Recommend changes that facilitate improved practices and procedures
- Advise on the development and implementation of activities and programs designed to support departmental OHS programs and priorities
- Develop and report statistical information/analysis to support business decisions
Skills and Abilities
- Excellent interpersonal and communication (written and oral) skills and an ability to establish and maintain good working relationships with management and staff at all levels of the organization
- Strong instructional, presentation and facilitation skills combined with experience in adult learning principles, methodologies and course design techniques
- Demonstrated time management skills to manage a heavy workload and multiple demands
- Strong analytical skills to interpret and manage key information
- Exceptional attention to detail
- Ability to work independently as well as part of a team
- Proficiency with Microsoft Office 365 applications (SharePoint, Teams, One Drive, Power Apps, Power BI, etc.)
Qualifications
- Post secondary Degree or Diploma in Occupational Health and Safety (or related field) with 4 years related experience
- Canadian Registered Safety Professional (CRSP) or Canadian Registered Safety Technician (CRST) designation (or the ability to obtain within one year)
- Demonstrated knowledge of the OHS Act, Regulations and Code and the Certificate of Recognition (COR) Program requirements
- Knowledge of the Strathcona County OHS program, policies and industry best practices are an asset
Conditions of Employment
- Valid Alberta Class 5 Driver’s licence and submission of a 5-year Driver’s Abstract with less than 7 demerits
- Occasional travel between locations and facilities for technical troubleshooting and training
*This position may also be required to work from home but be available to come in to the office or worksite when necessary to attend meetings or assist clients in person.*
