Responsibilities
The Orthopaedic Technician reports to the Health Services Manager and works under the direction of physician and in collaboration with other members of the Health Care team. The Orthopaedic Technician provides care to clients with orthopaedic problems through the application, adjustment and removal of a variety of casts, splints, braces and traction fittings as well as the removal of pins, external fixators, staples and sutures. The Orthopaedic Technician applies and removes dressings according to current would care policies and practices. The Orthopaedic Technician provides both teaching and emotional support to patients and families. Demonstration/teaching of casting techniques and procedures are provided as required to medical students, residents and nurses. The Orthopaedic Technician may be consulted to the Emergency Room or the PACU.
Qualifications
Orthopaedic Technology Program
Canadian Society of Orthopaedic Technologist preferred.
Strong interpersonal, collaboration and communication skills
Strong organization and priority setting skills
Detailed knowledge of anatomy and physiology as related to Orthopaedics
Knowledge of medical terminology
Strong assessment and critical thinking skills
Knowledge of Orthopaedic equipment, supplies and devices
Please add to qualifications: where there are no qualified applicants for this position, consideration may be given to candidates who do not possess a Diploma in Orthopaedic Technology that have completed a program in a relevant healthcare discipline (e.g. LPN, Paramedic, Kinesiology) plus one year recent and related health care experience. The offer is contingent upon successful completion of the in-house Orthopaedic Technician training program within eight months of hire.
Additional qualifications
- Competencies in other languages an asset, French preferred

$22.9073 – $26.5453/hourly
