BC Children’s Hospital, $27.63 to $30.50 per hour
What you’ll do
- Assist the physician as required for both booked and emergency patients by applying, modifying, adjusting, and/or removing braces, splints, and casts using a variety of techniques and materials; removing sutures and staples; applying and removing external hardware (e.g., pins); instructing patients, parents, and/or guardians regarding cast care and skin care.
- Document all care given to the patient on the ambulatory registration form, OR record (i.e., application of tourniquet), or appropriate health record form.
- Prepare cast room and operating room tables for special procedures and maintain orthopedic equipment such as plaster knives, cast saws, and equipment in good working order.
- Assemble equipment for positioning and posturing orthopedic patients and for use by the physicians and nurses, as required.
- Set up traction as directed by an Orthopedic Surgeon, instruct patients on the use of traction equipment, monitor equipment operation, and make adjustments as directed by a physician.
What you bring
- Graduation from a recognized program in Orthopedic Technology, current registration with the Canadian Society of Orthopedic Technicians.
- Two (2) years recent related experience, or an equivalent combination of education, training, and experience.
- CPR Training – Basic Cardiac Life Support (BCLS) – Level I.
