The Opportunity
As the leading authority on hedge funds in Canada, Picton Mahoney Asset Management is at an exciting and innovative phase of its evolution. PMAM is presently seeking a Performance Analyst to join the firm’s Performance and Analytics team. The Analyst will be responsible for effectively managing assignments and providing recommendations for process improvements. The Analyst will have a strong understanding of investment performance measurement concepts and methodologies in order to prepare analysis for a diverse set of investments, asset types and industry standards related to performance measurement.
Responsibilities of the Role
- Execute performance measurement activities (i.e., actual returns, benchmark returns, relative returns, attribution, portfolio exposures and characteristics, etc.) and related internal control procedures for the firm’s investment portfolios
- Prepare analysis, compile reports, and develop presentations in support of team deliverables
- Collaborate with other work groups/departments to integrate and streamline performance measurement processes
- Oversee the maintenance of performance and attribution system and various data sources
- Respond to ad-hoc requests related to the funds’ performance and attributes in support of various teams within the organization, as needed.
- Prepare and maintain on-going documentation efforts with regards to performance measurement concepts and methodologies and associated internal controls, processes, and results
- Participate on special projects and analyses as assigned
The Qualifications and Experience Required
- University degree in Business, Finance/Accounting, Economics, Computer Science or Mathematics
- Minimum of 3+ years’ experience in a related role within investment management or financial services industry
- CFA, CIPM or FRM candidate preferred or working towards obtaining designation
- Advanced knowledge of Excel
- Intermediate to advance knowledge of SQL, VBA
- Strong analytical and financial skills
- Knowledge of GIPS, Global Investment Performance Standards, is an asset.
- Fair understanding of investment products and best industry practices.
- Working knowledge of Bloomberg and performance attribution systems such as FactSet
- Flexible and adaptable to changing circumstances
- Excellent problem solving, decision making and analytical skills
- Effectively partner with other work groups and cross functions
