The Research Institute of the McGill University Health Centre (RI-MUHC) is a world-renowned biomedical and hospital research centre. Located in Montreal, Quebec, the Institute is the research arm of the McGill University Health Centre (MUHC) affiliated with the Faculty of Medicine at McGill University. Position summary
We are seeking a Postdoctoral Fellow with expertise in implementation sciences to join the Surgical Outcomes Research Group at the RI-MUHC Centre for Outcomes Research and Evaluation (CORE). The goal of our research program is the generation of knowledge to support evidence-based surgical care and improve postoperative outcomes in Canada and worldwide. Our work capitalizes on established and emerging principles of outcomes research to (1) create innovative, patient-centered strategies to measure postoperative outcomes, (2) assess the comparative-effectiveness of contemporary interventions to enhance recovery, and (3) promote the systematic uptake of research findings into routine surgical practice. We are a highly productive and internationally renowned research group with a track-record of important contributions to the field of surgical outcomes research. This is a highly collaborative position supporting multiple research activities, including a project focused on the implementation of enhanced recovery pathways in surgical units across Quebec. The successful applicant will work alongside the scientific leads – Dr. Liane Feldman, Dr. Lawrence Lee, and Dr. Julio Fiore.

General Duties

  • Work with the principal investigators to design and conduct research projects focused on the implementation of evidence-based interventions to improve surgical outcomes in routine clinical practice,
  • Train/mentor graduate students and other research personnel (i.e. HQP),
  • Liaise with external interdisciplinary collaborators (eg nursing, researchers, surgeons, government)
  • Prepare reports to knowledge users , manuscripts, and grant applications,
  • Present work at internal, local, national and international meetings,
  • Engage in graduate and undergraduate teaching opportunities.

Education / Experience

  • PhD degree in a discipline related to implementation science, health services research, or equivalent,
  • Proficiency in implementation science research methods, conduct, analysis, and reporting,
  • Excellent organization, planning and project management skills,
  • Superior English and French written and verbal communication skills,
  • Examples of desirable assets include experience with surgical research, digital health, database development and management, systematic literature reviews, quantitative research methods (i.e., statistical analysis) qualitative research methods, mixed-methods research, and patient-reported outcome measures.
