Job Description

IBI Group’s Waterloo office is seeking Practice Lead – Architecture to join their team! Working with a generalist portfolio of work, you’ll have the opportunity to work with and lead a fast-paced, driven team with a proven success record in both design and technical excellence! The successful candidate will offer experience being involved in a variety of projects end to end (in REVIT) along with strong design skills, proven leadership skills and a strong ability and desire for business development. You will have hands-on experience going through the full life cycle of an architectural project from preliminary concept design through to detailed design and construction. The successful individual will have a keen and creative eye for design and be able to lead and project manage/coordinate complex projects. Furthermore, you will be a strong critical thinker, and someone who enjoys tackling new challenges and opportunities, fostering new and existing business relationships as well as providing strong mentoring to the more junior designers and technologists within the team.

Most Of The Things You’ll Work On:

  • Lead in the Management of the Architectural Department and team;
  • Function as a Project Manager/ Senior Project Manager on multiple architecture projects within the practice;
  • Lead and direct business development activities in the Southern Ontario market including the preparation of proposals and statements of qualifications;
  • Manage staff productivity and utilization;
  • Mentor staff and project teams;
  • Supervise staff and participate directly in the completion of projects;
  • Foster a spirit of enthusiasm and client focus;
  • Oversee design and working drawings for a variety of projects;
  • Prepare documents for Building Permit and Tender;
  • Prepare feasibility studies;
  • Coordinate with other architectural and engineering disciplines as well as external consultants to prepare high quality coordinated documents;
  • Keep up to date on construction practices, products, codes and technologies;
  • Provide support for as required for site visits and contract administration services.

Qualifications

You’ll Need To Have:

  • Senior licensed Architect with a Degree in Architecture.
  • At least 10+ years of related experience in an architectural firm.
  • Current OAA Architect.
  • Proven experience in business development and a desire to continue the growth of the Waterloo practice; an existing book of business desired.
  • Proven experience in leading and managing a team of Architects and Technologists.
  • Strong communication (written and verbal) and time management skills.
  • Experience with Revit, AutoCAD and Microsoft Office software.
  • Strong knowledge with the Ontario Building Code.
  • Ability to juggle multiple projects and meet competing project deadlines.
  • Strong leadership skills and the ability to inspire and direct staff to produce presentation and construction documents.
  • Strong Project Management skills and experience.
  • Experience with marketing architectural services to clients and proposal preparation.
  • Great critical thinking skills with the ability to work remotely with minimal supervision.

We are currently in a work from home model during COVID-19, but when we do return to the office we’re located at 410 Albert St in Waterloo, Ontario.
