You will use your expertise to:

  • Ensure the safety of people, equipment, and the environment and that plant policies are adhered to
  • Learn all operating units within the assigned area of the facility and progress in increasing levels of responsibility at the site
  • Perform plant operation duties for smooth and efficient operations and ensure strong communication and collaboration exists between shift changes
  • Work on a dynamic crew covering a qualified post within an operating unit
  • Report and appropriately flag all plant-related issues beyond your scope to your leader
  • Prepare and complete daily area logs and communicate significant changes and findings in a timely manner
  • Provide direction to the maintenance and contract personnel as required
  • Ensure timely action and process adjustments during plant upsets that are consistent with operational objectives and target outputs
  • Prepare equipment and systems for maintenance and commissioning
  • Maintain housekeeping at a high level to ensure a safe work environment

Experience and Education:

  • Two or more years of experience in refinery operations preferred
  • High School Diploma or General Education Diploma (GED) is required
  • Successful completion of one of the following is required:
  • 4A and 4B Technical Standard Safety Authorization (TSSA) exams
  • Environmental Technician – Water & Wastewater Operations (EWSO) diploma from an accredited Canadian post-secondary institution
  • Power Engineering Technologist, College diploma in Chemical Process Engineering Technology (CPET) preferred
  • A valid driver’s licence and a clean driving record

Skills and Knowledge:

  • Proven mechanical aptitude to allow the hands-on operation of plant equipment
  • Strong troubleshooting skills with the ability to make timely decisions associated with process upsets
  • Adaptive work style with an ability to handle multiple priorities, challenging demands and function positively in a dynamic work environment
  • You do not take or tolerate shortcuts and if the procedure is incorrect, you fix it
  • You are a problem solvers who constantly ask what could go wrong and check for out-of-the-ordinary conditions and learn to anticipate potential problems

Where you’ll be working, your work schedule, and other meaningful information:

  • You will work out of our Sarnia refinery in Ontario, located at 1900 St. Clair Parkway
  • The shift schedule is a 12-hour rotation of days and nights (three on, three off)
  • This position has been identified as being safety sensitive
  • Individuals are required to adhere to our clean-shaven policy and perform some heavy lifting, work from heights with the capability of performing in a variety of different environments both indoor and outdoor as well as within confined spaces
  • Individuals are subject to a six-month probationary period and represented by the Sarnia Employees’ Bargaining Association (SEBA) upon completion of your probationary period
  • We require qualified and safety-focused employees for business-critical roles that maintain our commitment to operational excellence and reliable operations.
