Job description: Sheridan faculty provide academic leadership to programs and courses within their areas of expertise and contribute to the creation of a learning-centred environment where students can develop to their full potential. They also contribute to College, Faculty, and program excellence by collaborating on a variety of initiatives such as new program development, applied research, student success programs and alternative delivery strategies. Within this context of inspiring innovation and excellence, the School of Applied Chemical & Environmental Sciences is currently seeking a full-time Professor in Chemical and Environmental Engineering.

The successful candidate will have a strong industrial background related to the chemical and environmental sciences and will teach a range of course areas including the primary disciplines of Chemical and Environmental Engineering (environmental applications such as air pollution control, wastewater treatment, unit operations, fluid mechanics, process control, transport processes, etc.) and Chemistry (physical, analytical, organic, inorganic, etc.) to students in the Faculty of Applied Science and Technology, at the diploma, advanced diploma and post-graduate levels.

What You’ll be Doing

  • Ensuring that program and course curricula are current, relevant, and reflective of best practices within the professional/program disciplines;
  • Defining, evaluating, and validating applied learning outcomes for courses and programs;
  • Creating an effective environment for learning which accommodates students’ diverse cultural and educational backgrounds, experiences, and individual learning styles;
  • Designing appropriate strategies and tools for facilitating and assessing student learning that are invitational and reflective of best practices in teaching and learning;
  • Developing appropriate strategies and tools to assess student performance that are consistent with the learning outcomes of the course and address multiple learning styles;
  • Developing multi-media materials and alternative delivery strategies, and incorporating appropriate educational technologies into the applied learning process;
  • Ensuring that students are aware of course and program learning outcomes, learning strategies and evaluation techniques; providing individual tutoring and academic counselling; and evaluating student progress/achievement within assigned courses.
  • Participating in college service activities such as clubs, committees, and internal development activities.

The successful candidate will also meet the following qualifications;

  • A strong demonstration of industrial experience;
  • Undergraduate degree in chemical/environmental engineering;
  • P.Eng. or master’s degree in chemical/environmental engineering or industrial chemistry;
  • Knowledge of the main disciplines of chemical and environmental engineering and chemistry;
  • Five years relevant industrial experience preferred;
  • Experience in teaching and curriculum development at the post-secondary level or equivalent experience as a trainer in business or industry an asset;
  • Formal studies in adult or higher education an asset.

Campus Location: Davis Campus (may be assigned activities at any Sheridan campus) once normal campus operations resume. This role requires on-campus teaching but might include some remote delivery.
Employee Group: Academic
Hours: Professors may teach between the hours of 8:00am and 10:00pm
Salary Range: $66,555 – $115,378
Start Date: August 2022
