Job description: Gannett Fleming’s Toronto office is looking for an experienced Project Accountant. The successful candidate will be responsible for all facets of project and contract financial management. This position requires a hands-on team player who will assist the project managers and staff on a daily basis. The successful candidate will play a critical for Project Managers and project technical staff in delivering accurate contract performance data and resolving financial issues. Specific responsibilities are as follows:

  • Perform various specialized accounting functions of moderate complexity and ensure that procedures and practices are followed in accordance with company policy, accounting principles and contractual obligations.
  • Monitor weekly and monthly project expenditure, analysis of project status/completion, create and track invoices, collections management, project budgeting and administering of contracts, subcontracts, and change documentation.
  • Identify and track out of scope items through fee/budget revisions.
  • Participate in on-demand project review meetings to discuss project deliverables and project status. Review labor charges for accuracy and process journal entries.
  • Review sub-consultant invoices for accuracy; inform project manager of issues.
  • Ensure timely release of sub-consultant invoices for payment.
  • Communicate project numbers and contract/project financial data to project team on a regular basis.

Minimum Qualifications

  • Associate degree in a closely related field or combination of education.
  • Relevant progressive experience of five (5) plus years; an advanced degree may offset years of experience.
  • Familiar with Earned Value Management.
  • Experience working on Transit and Rail projects in the GTA area is required.
  • Advanced knowledge of project accounting, providing support for the most complex and/or large- scale projects.
  • Demonstrated experience in conducting project improvement based on review of financial results.
  • Experienced in general ledger account reconciliations, journal entry preparation and A/R cash adjustments.
  • Experienced in contract review for additional service opportunities and assist in converting project proposal into project budget.
  • Proficiency with MS Office including Word and Outlook.
