Overview

The Project Manager/Estimator – Bridge Construction is an important part of a vibrant team responsible for the successful project management and estimating of our bridge construction projects in the Edmonton area. This responsibility is accomplished by providing leadership and mentorship to the project management team. The Project Manager/Estimator also analyzes blueprints, specifications, proposals, and other documentation to prepare time, cost and labour estimates for projects or services.

Relocation assistance will be provided if successful candidate currently resides out of the Edmonton area.

Responsibilities

As a Project Manager/Estimator – Bridge Construction, you will be responsible for:

Business Development

  • Project specific partnering initiatives
  • Promote “Branded Products”
  • Develop long-term relationships with clients.
  • Stay current with municipal and industrial job market

Technical Operations

  • Preparing accurate and competitive cost estimates
  • Preparing final bid, complete with mark-up strategy based on market conditions
  • Responsible for all project invoicing
  • Chair PM meetings and attend site meetings
  • Provide project support in resolving contractual disputes
  • Manage cash flow
  • Subcontract agreements and administration
  • Procurement of materials and payment of invoices.
  • Conduct pre-construction meetings with all pertinent parties
  • Direct liaison with owner/consultant and field.
  • Ensure client satisfaction has been achieved
  • Solicit pricing from suppliers and subcontractors.
  • Review data to determine material and labour requirements and prepare itemized lists for proposed and/or approved projects.
  • Computes cost factors and prepares estimates, bids and proposals used for management purposes such as planning, organizing, scheduling work and determining cost effectiveness; lay out and traffic control plans with rentals, vendors or subcontractors.
  • Conducts special studies to develop and establish standard hour and related cost data or effect cost reductions.
  • Consults with clients, vendors, subcontractors or other individuals to discuss and formulate estimates, organize and manage contracts and resolve issues.
  • Prepares and submits necessary documents to acquire bonds and insurance certificates, or any other permits necessary to facilitate completion of project tasks.
  • Negotiate all subcontracts, supervise subcontractor activities and coordinate activities between subcontractors and Operations
  • Provide leadership and direction to supervisors, field crews, consultants, contractors, and the general public.

Qualifications

Education:

  • Engineering diploma or equivalent from a college or technical school (preferred CET or EIT designation)
  • A minimum of three years related experience in bridge construction and/or training, or equivalent combination of education and experience.

Experience and Skill Set:

  • Ability to read, analyze, and interpret plans and specifications, professional journals, technical procedures, and governmental regulations
  • Estimating experience preferred; project management and field supervisory experience a strong plus.
  • Ability to effectively present information in writing, and respond to questions from groups of managers, clients, customers and the general public
  • Ability to calculate figures and amounts such as discounts, interest, commissions, proportions, percentages, area, circumference, and volume.
  • Ability to interpret a variety of instructions furnished in written, oral, diagram or schedule form.
  • Computer proficient in word processing and spreadsheet applications
  • Proficient with Microsoft Excel, Microsoft Project, and Bluebeam takeoff software. Experience with B2W Estimate software a strong plus.
  • Strong understanding of all bridge components, demolition practices, concrete construction and related construction operations.
