The Role

Entegris is seeking an innovative, creative, and results-driven Chemist to join the Process Engineering and Chemistry team as a Scientist. This is an excellent opportunity to gain industrial experience in a fast-paced, technologically orientated, chemical manufacturing environment. You will work in a reasonably independent manner with an intense desire and drive to consistently achieve assigned project goals within agreed timeframes. You will be part of the New Product Development Engineering team and must show a commitment to adhere to the Entegris safety and regulatory standards. The successful candidate will be responsible for developing cost-effective, safe, and scalable routes for new products.

If you are an Organometallic/Main-group Synthetic Chemist with a versatile skillset and an ability to learn new chemistries and methods to support a broad number of new product development opportunities this may be the perfect job for you!

This role is onsite in our Toronto facility.

In this role you will

  • Develop, optimize and scale cost-effective, safe, and scalable synthetic routes for new products.
  • Assist in directing and controlling processes in accordance with defined policies and procedures. Assist with analyses and audits on processes in order to make recommendations on such items as safety, quality, cost, waste reductions, and efficiency.
  • Apply your demonstrated laboratory experience in a pilot plant environment.
  • Use design of experiment methodologies and tools to effectively and efficiently generate results that lead to valid conclusions.
  • Support non-linear scale-ups, which include addressing reaction kinetics, chemical equilibriums, materials compatibility, fluid dynamics, thermodynamics, and mixing.
  • Document experiments and results in a detailed manner across a variety of platforms.
  • Prepare summary presentations for internal team meetings, business updates and customers.
  • Collaborate with peers and on cross-functional teams to achieve project objectives.

Additional responsibilities:

  • Continuously expand skills through collaborations and self-exploration.
  • Understand the other aspects of a project beyond the technical to achieve higher impact results.
  • Performs general maintenance and calibration of laboratory equipment, according to the department’s established calibration program.

Traits we believe make a strong candidate

  • PhD in organometallic/main-group chemistry or related discipline required.
  • Comfort and familiarity with handling air-sensitive materials (i.e. using Schlenk lines and anaerobic glove boxes).
  • Post doctorate work in organometallic chemistry or related discipline preferred.
  • Relevant industrial experience, particularly with scale-up development preferred.
  • Experience with both classic and modern bench-scale organometallic synthetic chemistry techniques preferred.
  • Experience interpreting analytical results, such as NMR, GC, GC-MS, HPLC, etc.
  • Basic computer knowledge, including proficiency with MS Office and SciFinder.
  • Experience with design of experiment (DOE) statistical methods and tools.
  • Knowledge of proper safe handling/disposal of chemicals and ability to maintain a clean and safe workspace.
  • Ability to manage multiple projects at various stages of the development process.
  • Strong organizational skills and meticulous documentation habits.
  • Strong written and oral communication skills with experience presenting results to internal and external stakeholders.
  • Ability to advance multiple work tasks simultaneously towards successful and timely outcomes.
