Responsibilities
Reporting to the Health Services Manager, Hospice and Palliative Care, the Registered Nurse will provide care and support to the patients and their families at the Valley Hospice. The RN is responsible for the overall coordination and direction of nursing care. The RN provides clinical leadership particularly in complex or unpredictable patient/client care settings. The RN has the knowledge, skill and judgment needed to provide competent, evidenced based nursing practice. The RN is accountable for the development, implementation and ongoing evaluation of the plan of care to achieve patient/client outcomes. As a member of a collaborative care team works with other disciplines to co-ordinate care to achieve patient/family outcomes. The RN supports the development of students and colleagues through acting as a preceptor and providing ongoing mentorship. The RN contributes to the efficient and effective functioning of the service/unit, coordination of patient care, staffing and/or other resources as required.
Qualifications
- Graduate of an approved School of Nursing
- Registered or eligible for registration with the Nova Scotia College of Nurses (NSCN)
- Current BLS-C (HCP) certification
- Palliative Education – LEAP Program (Learning Essential approaches to Palliative Care) – preferred or required to obtain
- Hospice palliative care experience preferred
- Minimum five (5) years recent nursing experience, preferably medical/surgical
- Post Degree certification and/or study in Palliative Care preferred
- Demonstrated ability to adapt to changing work environments
- Demonstrated ability to function well as a team member required
- Demonstrated ability to meet challenges and changes of health care essential
- Demonstrated involvement with continuing education is an asset
- Demonstrated excellent communication and interpersonal skills required
- Competencies in other languages an asset, French preferred

Hours of Work
- Permanent Part Time 60%; 45 hours bi-weekly
- Commencing as soon as possible
- Shifts may include days, nights, weekends and holidays
Salary Information
$35.2108 – $41.4848 hourly
$42.9366 hourly with 25 yrs RN experience
