Job title: Research Pharmacist

Job description: Reports to Manager of Pharmacy Research Support Services (PReSS)Assist in Pharmacy research support services. Ensures Pharmacy processes and record keeping are in accordance with Health Canada requirements and International Conference on Harmonization for Good Clinical Practices (ICH-GCP). Ensures proper inservicing of Pharmacy Staff on dispensing and documentation procedures for research studies. Oversees the drug distribution component of Pharmacy services for research studies. Provides research-related drug information to nursing, medical, and pharmacy staff.
Leads pharmacy practice-based research initiatives within the Pharmacy department. Provides expertise in the development, completion, and dissemination of pharmacy practice-based research within the Pharmacy Department.
Active member of Research Ethics Board (REB). Conducts an assessment of protocols assigned, as a primary reviewer for REB.
Serves as the primary Pharmacy contact for Clinical Research Associates/Investigators conducting clinical trials at the hospital.
Communicates regularly with members of the Research Administration.
Coordinates the provision of the Special Access Program (SAP) drugs within the Pharmacy Department to ensure timely access of these medications.
Provides formal teaching to Pharmacy Residents and Pharmacy Students.
Reports to the Pharmacy and Therapeutics Committee (quarterly) on current research studies and new special access program drugs.
Satisfies continuing competence requirements as defined by expectations from the Ontario College of Pharmacists, Canadian Society of Hospital Pharmacists, and the Pharmacy Department.
Actively participates in the departmental development process.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor of Science in Pharmacy from an accredited university.
  • Registration with the Ontario College of Pharmacists, Part A.
  • Hospital Pharmacy Residency plus 3 years experience in clinical practice OR Advanced Clinical Degree plus 2 years experience in clinical practice OR 5 years experience in clinical practice AND experience supporting clinical drug trials AND demonstrated expertise and experience in pharmacy practice-based research.
  • Knowledge of clinical drug trial methods.
  • Knowledge of GMP
  • Training in GCP and GDP
  • Ability and skills required to perform pharmacy based research and provide support to others in this area.
  • Ability to effectively communicate with a variety of health care professionals.
  • Expected to demonstrate leadership qualities within the pharmacy team with respect to area of expertise.
  • Excellent oral and written communication skills.
  • Must have excellent interpersonal skills.
  • Effective time management skills.
  • Ability to manage multiple tasks simultaneously.
  • Demonstrated independent problem-solving skills.
