Real Property Division (RPD) is a division within the Ministry of Citizens’ Services (CITZ) which provides accommodation and real estate services to government ministries and the broader public sector. RPD provides everything needed to design, set up and manage a government workplace. This includes management of the Province’s diverse real estate portfolio of leased and government owned properties throughout the Province; office space inventory; furniture procurement; project and construction management; and real estate services for special purpose facilities (such as courthouses, laboratories or correctional facilities).

Workplace Development Services (WDS) is a Branch within the Real Property Division providing expert advisory services in project delivery and oversight, building technology advisory services and strategic facilities planning. The WDS team of professional architects, engineers and project management specialists translate client programs and requirements into building solutions by facilitating option definition and planning, securing funding approvals, and providing oversight of the project from concept, through construction and close-out.

Projects managed by the Branch range from major capital new builds, large multi-year asset rehabilitation and maintenance programs to coordination and integration of tenant improvements, and client moves. In addition, WDS supports environmental stewardship programs and ensures the corporate Environmental Management System (EMS) requirements are implemented and maintained.

The Branch also supports the Division with Strategic Building Technology Services and is responsible for providing advice to BC government’s portfolio of more than 2000 properties that have a presence in almost every community in the province. This includes the development and implementation of government policy and programs governing the performance of provincially funded buildings. The departmentdevelopsand maintainsbuilding technical standards; and provides professionalstrategic advice and comments ondesigns/reports produced by private sector consultants, and professional review of RPD’s Major Capital Expenditure and Asset Management plans.

The Building Technology Advisors (BTA)function involves the timely, authoritative, strategic technical expertise within a specialized field of the building sciences. The BTA works within a team of Building Technology Advisors who together provide expertise in the fields of interior and exterior architectural elements, building envelope, mechanical systems, electrical and lighting systems, structured cabling systems, direct digital control systems and building physical security systems. The BTA has extensive experience and is an accredited professional (i.e. a professional engineer, registered architect, technologist or other specialized building system expert with additional specialized training). The BTA is a recognized expert by the clients, stakeholders, the construction industry, and the professional design community, and is the technical authority within RPD. The BTA stays current, and is actively involved in professional and industry consultative bodies.

The Building Technology Advisor provides strategic technical advice to RPD and Provincial Government clients on all aspects of the selection, evaluation, design, and application of various building technology systems. Each Building Technology Advisor addresses a specialized discipline within the building sciences and is responsible for providing strategic advice of internal or outsourced design and planning that affect building systems and fabric.

Job Requirements:
In order to be considered for this position, your application must clearly demonstrate how you meet the education and experience as outlined below:

  • Post-secondary degree, diploma or certificate in a related field; plus 10 years current progressively more senior experience in the field of Physical Security and related experiences below; OR an equivalent combination of education, training and related experience.

Related experience includes:

  • Extensive experience in planning, design, implementation, and maintenance of appropriate building systems required to support the position’s discipline/area of expertise, with emphasis on institutional facilities.
  • In-depth knowledge of networks and IP based systems.
  • Proficient with technology tools, including web-based and enterprise-wide applications, Adobe Acrobat, and the MS suite of desktop applications.
  • Experience within a service-oriented organization with commitment to client service, innovation and creativity, and a strong focus on delivering results.
  • Negotiation skills with experience in facilitating and resolving conflicting goals with multiple clients, vendors, and contractors.
  • CPP designation will be an asset.

Willingness:

  • Flexibility and willingness to work extra hours as required to meet business needs;
  • Flexibility and adaptability to assume additional responsibilities as required to meet business needs;
  • Must hold a valid BC Driver’s License and have flexibility and willingness to travel throughout the province;
  • Willingness to attend site meetings/field review in Correctional Facilities & Courthouses throughout the Province.
