Job Description

We are currently recruiting for a Higher Education Sales Executive to cover a portfolio of academic institutions in the UK. Managing a territory, you will be responsible for achieving annual territory targets through sustainable and consultative account management and maintaining an awareness of the business and competitive trading environment.

Working in conjunction with a team of sales representatives, you will be expected to generate new and maintain existing business by selling and developing relationships with lecturers and universities to expand our growing textbook adoptions.

The key responsibilities within in this role will be:

  • Achieving and exceeding annual territory sales targets, contributing to the overall revenue and profit objectives of the division
  • Analysing sales figures, running reports, maintaining our CRM system and communicating with colleagues in the sales, marketing and editorial departments on a daily basis
  • Cultivating strong, holistic relationships with the customer base, building a deep understanding of the customer’s market and specific needs to provide a tailored sales service to drive the highest levels of customer service and satisfaction
  • Collecting and disseminating market, competitor, and customer feedback, including passing on leads where the customer and business would be better served by a different T&F channel/offering
  • Actively liaising with stakeholder departments or groups within the business to enhance T&F’s coverage of the territory – including editorial, marketing and other sales teams
  • Accurate and timely maintenance of CRM systems
  • Developing alternative routes to market, including direct sales for print and digital content as appropriate, ensuring any direct commercial deals are consistent with the overall sales strategy in the market
  • Updating the Higher Education Sales Manager by the provision of reports on sales activities and bring to their attention any problems/challenges with recommendations for resolution
  • Preparing for, attending, and contributing to sales meetings and events to build strategic awareness and to gather market relevant intelligence

Qualifications

The ideal candidate:

  • Will be a self-motivated and organised – The ability to work independently and pro-actively
  • Experience of working in a sales environment with an understanding of the demands placed on sales and the support needs of a sales team (desirable)
  • Knowledge of the academic publishing industry or the book trade (desirable, not essential)
  • Competent user of core MS Office package
  • Able to create and maintain positive and effective relationships with the sales team and other internal colleagues
  • A clear communicator, comfortable communicating in writing and verbally
  • Good analytical, decision making and problem-solving skills
