The ‘Section Head – Clinical Cell Therapy Laboratory (CCTL)’ is responsible for staff deployment and overall supervision of lab activities, prioritization of work, development of new procedures and quality control activities. This person also performs Medical Technologist duties in this laboratory, as detailed below.
What you’ll do
- Coordinate day-to-day work activities and prioritization of procedures, alongside organizing and implementing orientation and training programs for new staff.
- Help design complex clinical laboratory protocols/ procedures, alongside reviewing and interpreting the results of quality control activities with the Medical Director and team members.
- Perform duties of a Medical Technologist within the CCTL, of which includes, but is not limited to:
- o Performing established procedures for mobilized peripheral blood, bone marrow, T Cell Apheresis, serum eye drops and cord for cryopreservation and/or infusion.
o Perform established quality control procedures, including performing viable cell counts, immunostaining of cells and analysis using flow cytometry and colony-forming cell assays.
o Perform data entry into relevant computer databases.
o Perform calculations and basic statistical comparisons, while reviewing test results for infectious disease markers, viability and CD34 evaluation.
- Establish and maintain quality control processes, maintain standard operating procedures and develop validation techniques for lab procedures and equipment, as required.
- Organize and supervise ‘on call’ coverage of CCTL activities, including maintaining alarm systems.
- Provide input to the Manager and Medical Director regarding capital equipment needs and operating costs for inclusion in the Department budget.
- Participate in the process of selecting applicants for employment, while providing input into employee probationary periods, as required.
- Ensure all critical supplies and equipment are maintained.
- Develop and ensures adherence to lab safety standards and procedures
- Perform other related lab/ related duties as required.
What you bring
- Certification with the Canadian Society of Medical Laboratory Science (CSMLS).
- Graduation from a recognized program in Medical Laboratory Technology, plus Bachelor of Science in Cell Biology or three (3) years of recent, related experience in Stem Cell Culture procedures.
- One (1) year supervisory experience and completion of courses in supervision and time management, or an equivalent combination of education, training and experience.

- Knowledge and technical competence to perform cell therapy procedures and the ability to operate related equipment.
- Demonstrated interpersonal skills, including the ability to communicate effectively with physicians and laboratory and other staff, both verbally and in writing.
- Demonstrated attention to detail and organizational skills.
- Demonstrated ability to be self-motivated, manage time, and work independently.
- Ability to supervise.
- Demonstrated knowledge of laboratory operations, computerized laboratory information systems and ability to use related software.
- Demonstrated ability to accept responsibility, make decisions, organize and delegate work assignments.
- Demonstrated physical ability to perform the job.
