The Data & Analytics team at Loblaw is hiring a Senior Data Platform Engineer with experience in building cloud-based modern data platforms from the ground up. Reporting to the Senior Manager – Senior Data Platform Engineering, the incumbent will be responsible for ingesting, wrangling, cleansing, and delivering data to power our Analytics, BI and ML/AI capabilities. The successful candidate will be passionate about data and have a strong foundation of data management concepts and engineering best practices.

What You’ll Do:

• Build a Data Platform and services using the latest Cloud technologies on GCP
• Build end-to-end processes supporting data ingestion, data transformations, data cleansing, data delivery, data quality and data timeliness.
• Build real time streaming batch data pipelines, metadata services, and UI dashboards for data monitoring, controls and prediction.
• Design and build an API gateway to manage integration points between the data platform, data consumers and other applications.
• Explore opportunities for optimization of existing data pipelines and re-designing of data infrastructure for greater scalability and performance.
• Assist with data-related technical challenges and perform root-cause analysis to answer specific business questions and recommend and implement ways to improve data reliability, efficiency, and quality.
• Contributes to the development and documentation of data management standards framework.
• Mentor and cross-train junior data platform engineers.

What You’ll Bring:

• University degree in Computer Science, Mathematics, Engineering, or related field.
• 4+ years of software engineering experience with strong focus on data.
• 4+ years of relevant OO programming experience using Java or Python.
• Experience with relational databases (Teradata, Oracle, SQL Server)
• Advanced knowledge of SQL queries and optimization
• Experience with Linux environment and building CI/CD pipelines
• Ability to take initiative, multi-task, and work in a fast-paced environment
• Superb analytical and conceptual thinking skills; to not only manipulate but also derive meaningful interpretations from data
• A team player and self-starter, strong detail orientation is essential in this role

Nice to have:

• Experience working with Cloud data platforms such as

Google Cloud Platform (Dataflow, Big Query, Apache Beam, Apache Airflow) * Experience with Data Lake and Big Data Technologies (Hadoop, Hive)

• Experience with data visualization and virtualization
