Job description: .What is the opportunity?

The Senior Director, Technology Strategy, Risk Data, Analytics and Systems will be responsible for the technology and data strategy to support the enterprise’s ability to anticipate and manage operational risks. You will develop a multi-year plan to implement the technology and data changes required. You will be the product owner for the Operational Risk Governance, Risk and Compliance (GRC) system and are accountable for the development and implementation of the product roadmap to enhance and automate our risk management practices across all non-financial risk areas of the bank. You will lead a team of systems, analytics and data science professionals who will support the strategy and related implementation.

What will you do?

  • Working with stakeholders from across the bank, develop a multi-phased technology and data strategy to support operational risk.
  • As Product Owner for the operational risk management system, lead a team of professionals to define and deliver solutions that enable better experiences for users, enhance our risk management practices, as well as drive value for RBC businesses.
  • Manage the end-to-end planning, development, implementation, change management and closing phases of large and complex technology projects related to Operational Risk Management that support RBC’s strategic objectives
  • Drive business value by presenting and delivering innovative new approaches to complex technology and data problems
  • Partner with IT in identifying and implementing tools/software/architecture required to meet the analytics needs of the operational risk team; build advanced analytics capabilities that enable operational risk to become more predictive and prescriptive vs. descriptive and reactive
  • Responsible for the design and implementation of controls around the sourcing and use of data
  • Ensure compliance with data governance and management policies of RBC.
  • Direct data science initiatives to uncover business value using statistical, machine learning and analytics techniques

What do you need to succeed?

Must-have:

  • Proven success building multi-year technology strategies that meet the needs of diverse and complex user groups
  • Experience leading multi-disciplinary technology and data teams, with exceptional interpersonal skills in order to effectively source information, build relationships, and provide sufficient influence to achieve success
  • Strong working knowledge of Risk Management concepts and processes. Strong knowledge of design, development, and implementation experience
  • Hands on experience with distributed computing and big data technologies – Hadoop (Pig, Hive), SQL databases and Apache Spark
  • Ph.D. or Masters in Business Administration, Computer Science, Statistics, or related fields
  • Strong process engineering and performance management background including data management and analysis

Nice-to-have:

  • Knowledge of Project Management (PMF) process/disciplines
  • Working knowledge of industry Integrated Risk Management solutions/packages – Archer
  • Familiarity with RBC’s existing data infrastructure is an asset
  • Strong knowledge and skills of RBC data, analytics methodology, practices and tools
