Reporting to the Finance Manager, Time Billings/Costing or his/her designate, the incumbent will be responsible for monitoring and analyzing transactions and completing monthly reports relevant to the CRC’s payroll. They will ensure the accuracy of financial records for internal and external parties in accordance with CRC’s accounting principles, established policies and procedures, relevant legislation, government guidelines, local contract requirements and audit requirements.

In this role, you will:

Responsibility 1: Reconciliation and review

  • Review the reconciliation of the payroll summary registers to the general ledger on a bi-weekly basis, ensuring that the general ledger captures all payroll expenses and liabilities.
  • Review the completion of the payroll import on a bi-weekly basis for the CRC, ensuring that the expense for payroll is entered accurately into the general ledger.
  • Ensure monthly general ledger clearing process occurs as per schedule and the general ledger is updated as required.
  • Ensure data reconciliation within the applicable compensation program against external partners, including benefit providers, provincial tax authorities, and provincial worker’s compensation boards, to ensure accuracy.
  • Reconcile and analyze specific balance sheet accounts, address any changes required and ensure timely correction.

Responsibility 2: Analysis and reporting

  • Maintain Excel databases (data and entries) for reconciliation purposes and to meet reporting requests.
  • Prepare bi-weekly, monthly, and yearly time billing analysis, reports, and dashboards for program staff and senior management.
  • Collaborate regularly with payroll and program staff to confirm balances, investigate and rectify discrepancies, and provide ad hoc reporting.
  • Provide statistical data and analyse this data in conjunction with the financial results associated with it to aid senior management in decision making.
  • Complete payroll period end analysis reports to be distributed to department heads and finance in a timely manner.

What we are looking for:

  • Completion of a university degree in Finance, Business Administration, or a related field.
  • Five (5) years of job-related experience.
  • General knowledge and understanding of accounting theory, techniques and policies.
  • Demonstrated knowledge of Microsoft Office applications including Outlook, Word, Excel and PowerPoint.
  • Strong attention to detail, analytical, and problem-solving skills.
  • Strong verbal and written communication skills, including the ability to communicate effectively with senior management. Fluency in both official languages considered an asset.
  • This position requires a satisfactory Canadian criminal record reference check.
  • Experience with time tracking systems, billings, recoveries, and with AX Dynamics is an asset.
  • Working towards, or completion of a chartered professional accounting designation is an asset.
