Sr. Manager, Retail Finance Canada

Job Description:

The Sr. Manager, Retail Finance is a key leader within North American Finance and will work directly with the Canada Retail leadership team to profitably grow the retail business. The position will help drive value creation with our customers though financial review of pricing, trade and marketing initiatives as well as support the assessment of innovation and new product launches. The role includes the review and analysis of the overall Canada business financials, providing visibility beyond Retail into the Food Service and QSR channels. Individual will work closely with Managing Director of the Canada Retail Business Unit providing financial and business counsel.

Responsibilities and Accountabilities:

  • Partnering with the Canada Retail commercial team to drive profitable growth and key decision-making for the retail business.
  • Drive competitive advantage for McCain through trade management practices, price/mix and developing innovative promotional opportunities.
  • Partner with the retail commercial team to lead the financial modeling of potential promotional activities, analyze the impact of new business proposals, and manage overall margins as it relates to product pricing and promotions.
  • Develop and implement various financial analyses including, but not limited to: product/customer profitability, key customer requests, trends and drivers, customer bid proposal support, pricing and promotion, and competitor benchmarking.
  • Assess Return on Investment (ROI) on trade and marketing investments, actively collaborating with the marketing team on key programs
  • Remain current on market conditions and market pricing on competing product categories and develop recommendations to changes in business or product category pricing strategy.
  • Suggest opportunities to continually improve the efficiency and effectiveness of the pricing process.
  • Improve controls in the area of trade fund management. Enable Sales and Marketing teams to effectively manage trade and marketing budgets and maximize performance behind spending.
  • Provide visibility and analysis relating to the entire Canada business including all channels.
  • Participate in regional and global project opportunities.

Academic/Professional/Technical Accreditations:

  • University degree in Business or Finance

Nice to have:

  • Accounting designation (CPA)

Related work experience:

  • 6+ years’ experience with finance, Canadian trade and trade fund management, preferably in the consumer product goods organization.

Non-Technical Competencies:

Looking for a candidate which is collaborative in their work approach.

  • This role is highly dependent on the ability of the candidate to effectively communicate with Sales and Marketing teams; while implementing controls and guardrails around trade spend management.
  • The candidate must be able to work effectively with many functions, primarily; Sales, Sales Strategy and within Finance.

The Finance function is looking for a team player, and someone willing to ‘go the extra mile’.

  • Many times there are non-finance requests which come to the Retail Finance team, and this candidate must be willing to accommodate ad hoc requests.
