Senior Manager, Balance Sheet & Margin Management – Global Business Payments – Toronto, ON
Purpose
Contributes to the overall success of the Balance Sheet & Margin Management – Global Business Payments (GBP) – Global Banking & Markets (GBM), ensuring specific individual initiatives are delivered in support of the team’s business strategies. You’ll ensure that all activities conducted are in compliance with governing regulations, internal policies and procedures.
- Balance Sheet management domestically and in regions under GBP management (including expansion beyond existing Business Line and Regional scope)
- Technical role for strategizing, maintaining, monitoring and reporting on Deposit product mix, Interest Expense and Funds Transfer Pricing
- Provides analytical support for deposits planning, forecasting, portfolio tracking/reporting, analytics, and pricing/margin across the GBP global footprint
- Financial metrics (deposit volume, net interest income and net interest margin)
You’ll provide direct support to the VP of Global Business Deposit Products in the preparation of presentations and communications. This role also has considerable interaction across other groups and business lines to proactively optimize the reporting and analysis.
Is this role right for you? You will be responsible to:
Contribute to GBP’s revenue through value-added portfolio analytic insights and risk objectives
- Support the performance of the deposit portfolio to evaluate profitability, including interest expense governance (non-standard and managed rate portfolios)
- Analysis of deposit data / Management Information Systems (MIS) analytics to drive enhancements through portfolio trending and pricing recommendations
- Measure Net Interest Margin (NIM) implications at the business line and GBP level as it relates to Funds Transfer Pricing (FTP) and the underlying business strategies
- Prepare the necessary financial information to assist in decision-making
- Review pricing parameters on the portfolio by acting as SME to enhance product pricing or technological innovations
Participate in the reporting, planning & forecasting of the overall financials and operations for Global Business Payments
- Assist in Profit Planning for GBP through top/bottom line targets and optimal product mix
- Analyze financial performance and monitor appropriate performance measurement criteria and key metrics, providing insights to leadership
- Analysis of monthly and quarterly results, Bluebook, forecasts, annual plan, business line dashboards, monthly presentations, among others
- Review and enhance internal operational improvements to ensure management information needs are met
Support and document existing/new FTP methodologies
- Analysis and reasonability review of proposals prior to being implemented
- Document and maintenance of the FTP Policy and its distribution across the non-personal deposit portfolio
- Communicate insights that would impact the profitability of the business line/GBP’s portfolio
Financial Reporting of GBP’s Deposit Portfolio
- Maintaining pace with increased demand from Finance and Group Treasury on liquidity forecasting and reporting
- Lead financial mapping construction (Client Segment, Transit, GLs) for new deposit product establishment, enhancement and/or modification
- Providing analytical support and documentation, and quantifying the effects of the various initiatives on the Profit Plan in addition to organic growth
- Reviewing changes in margin and working with GBP Finance on providing detailed analysis
- Supporting financial entries to the various financial systems and compare against agreed upon numbers to ensure reconciliation.
- Apply different analytical techniques to answer key business questions (e.g. stress testing, cannibalization, behavioural analysis, regressive and parallel analysis)
- Consults as a deposit SME to ensure structured data is available for day-to-day use and for customized solutions to support decision-making
- Keep appraised with enterprise-wide data architecture development
Do you have the skills that will enable you to succeed in this role? We’d love to work with you if you have:
- Undergraduate or graduate degree in Business or quantitative discipline (e.g. financial analysis, accounting and/or risk concepts, engineering, mathematics, statistics, etc.)
- 10+ years’ experience in financial industry with familiarity with non-personal deposit products, transfer pricing, margin analysis, liquidity risk and performance management
- Solid track record of seeing beyond the numbers to the effects on the business
- Comprehensive understanding of multiple, complex data sources across the Bank
- Experience with data technology and end user development as well as Statutory and Management reporting
