Job Description:

With the introduction of the IFRS 17 accounting standards, Sun Life is looking for an individual who is able to perform and lead teams as a Scrum Master/Senior Project Manager. The individual helps build high-performing teams by providing support with product delivery, utilizing a deep understanding of agile principles and team dynamics. In addition, they have a solid understanding of the more traditional approach to project management, understanding the SDLC and how to manage the lifecycle of more traditional projects.

What will you do?

• Manage all phases of large or several medium, high risk IT Application projects while leveraging best practice standards and processes.
• Delivery obsessed and willing to move mountains for your clients
• Monitor Scrum processes and support Product Owner on release planning and backlog management
• Build high performing teams who produce successful deliverables and work effectively via individual and team coaching
• Listens and collaborates with curiosity and respect
• Strengthen the team’s understanding of Agile / Scrum principles and ensure application of these practices
• Ensure the team’s actions are aligned with the project goals and vision
• Participate in building a psychologically safe environment for your team
• Define and manage project risks and issues ensuring appropriate strategies and plans are in place to mitigate or handle effectively.
• Communicate with honestly and transparency to your team and stakeholders.
• Ensure the appropriate processes, tools and techniques are available and used by the project team
• Possess an entrepreneurial spirit and be willing to try new things, fail (safely) and innovate

What you need to succeed:

• Overall understanding of IFRS17 Financial Reporting Standards and the impact on the insurance industry with a focus on finance and valuation processes
• 5 to 10 years of progressive experience as a Scrum Master / Project Manager working in Agile and Scrum environments
• Experience as a Scrum Master as well as appropriate certification
• Certified Project Management professional designation (PMP) ideal
• Delivery or software development background a plus

The Base Pay range is for the primary location for which the job is posted. It may vary depending on the work location of the successful candidate or other factors. In addition to Base Pay, eligible Sun Life employees participate in various incentive plans, payment under which is discretionary and subject to individual and company performance.
