Role

The Water Administration Engineer Hydrogeologist is a front-line position that administers the Water Act while providing technical and policy advice regarding ground water management issues and represents the department publicly with the goal of resolving them. This exciting work is carried out within the framework of provincial legislation, policy and the current business plan. In this position you will learn and help develop a new regulatory framework that involves outcome based environmental management systems.

In this role you will:

  • Process applications submitted under Water Act legislation such that applications are reviewed efficiently and provide recommendations that address cumulative effects to manage the water resource pursuant to the Water Act.
  • Provide advice to the public, other government agencies and internal teams in a timely manner which demonstrates cumulative effects management of the water resource pursuant to the Water Act.
  • Represent the Department’s position on water-related committees such that legislation and/or policies are clearly stated and consistently interpreted.
  • You will be reviewing environmental impact assessment (EIA) submissions within the bounds of Water Act legislation in a timely manner.

For this position, you will be required to understand technical terms and analyze concepts and have the ability and agility to deliver timely service to the public. You will also be required to apply scientific principles / theories to varied situations with consideration for policy, as well as the economic, legal and social impact of actions taken. Qualifications

Bachelor of Science degree in Engineering, in hydrogeology or resource engineering/earth science/environmental engineering equivalents with a focus on Hydrogeology, Master’s preferred; a minimum of 5 year of related work experience that demonstrates knowledge of groundwater modeling programs and models; and eligible for membership in the Association of Professional Engineers, and Geoscientists of Alberta (APEGA).

Equivalency: Directly related education or experience considered on the basis of:

  • 1 year of relevant education for 1 year of experience; or
  • 1 year of relevant experience for 1 year education

Assets to this position include: Experience in contaminant hydrogeology, familiarity of AEP’s groundwater monitoring program, and knowledge of Alberta’s geology and hydrogeology.

Salary

$3,007.16 to $4,163.64 bi-weekly ($78,486 to $108,671 / year)

This position works Monday to Friday, 8:15 AM-4:30 PM, 36.25 hours a week.
