Description: Queer Carribbean Politics and Diasporas: This course applies a multi-disciplinary and transnational approach to understanding the social, cultural, and political realities of queer people in the Caribbean. We use different methods and theoretical frameworks to understand multiple intersections of identity and experience — including race and class — in queer politics in the Caribbean and its diasporas. Challenging dominant representations of extreme violence, disease, and death for sexual and gender minorities peoples, this course draws on a range of sources including scholarship, art, and activism to critically understand and assess the complex and nuanced dynamics and dimensions of queerness and community-making in the region and attendant diasporas.
Estimated course enrollment: 30 students
Class schedule: Mondays and Wednesdays, 10:00am – 12:00pm
Sessional dates of appointment: May 01, 2022 – June 30, 2022
Salary ranges:
Sessional Lecturer I: $8,489.67
Sessional Lecturer I – Long Term: $8,869.25
Sessional Lecturer II: $9,085.58
Sessional Lecturer III: $9,301.90
Minimum qualifications: Completed doctorate degree in Sexuality Studies, Caribbean Studies, Diaspora Studies, or related field.
Preferred qualifications: Teaching experience of a similar course at the university level. Research background in both queer studies and Caribbean studies.
Description of duties: Duties include the design of a university credit course, including preparation of syllabus, reading list, lecture materials; delivering course content; developing, administering and marking of assignments, tests and exams; calculation and submission of grades; holding regular office hours; communicating with students via email and Quercus.
