Work Arrangements

This temporary full-time (35 hours per week) position is available starting February 21, 2022. Regular hours of work are Monday to Friday, 8:30 am – 4:30 pm. Shift days and times may change depending on the Department’s need. Occasional evening and/or weekend work may be required. The position is located at the New Westminster campus; however, successful candidate must be available for occasional work at the Coquitlam campus.

The Role

Reporting to the Manager, Student Life, the Sexual Violence Prevention & Education Coordinator will primarily be responsible for planning, designing, implementing and overseeing the education and awareness efforts for sexual violence prevention at Douglas College. This position works collaboratively with the Student Life team, other Student Affairs and Services units and key on campus and off-campus stakeholders to lead campus-wide sexual violence prevention strategies that promote a culture of consent and create a safer, more inclusive College environment.
Responsibilities

1. Plans, designs, implements and evaluates activities in support of sexual violence awareness programming

a) plays a lead role in designing, implementing and evaluating programming that meets the relevant provincial mandates, ensuring all sexual violence awareness programming aligns with College strategic plans, policies and initiatives

b) plans, designs, and implements prevention and educational programming in the areas of sexual assault, relationship violence, gender-based stalking and sexual harassment for all students, including consent/sexual violence awareness campaigns and initiatives, activity bystander training, online educational materials, in-classroom workshops, etc.

c) conducts program, initiative, campaign and student training evaluations to enhance current sexual violence awareness programs and training for students

d) reviews, plans and implements campus-wide sexual violence awareness campaigns such as Let’s DO Respect, Moosehide Campaign, etc.

e) plans and conducts ongoing campus needs assessments to inform sexual violence awareness programming

f) identifies emerging trends and promising practices in sexual violence prevention education

g) provides guidance and support to the sexual violence prevention peer leadership program (Consent Champions)

2. Provides oversight to the sexual violence awareness operations on all Douglas College campuses

a) develops and administers operating budgets for all sexual violence prevention activities, programs and special events

b) recruits, hires and supervises student assistants and volunteers including providing onboarding and ensuring the provision of appropriate training and professional development and evaluations

c) initiates and processes appropriate personnel, payroll, accounting and purchasing documentation

d) ensures all program and College procedures are followed and recommends changes in procedures

3. Develops relationships and works collaboratively with key internal and external stakeholders to ensure effectiveness of programming

a) collaborates with Student Life Coordinators and the Wellness Coordinator to integrate sexual violence awareness components into programming, including orientation and transitional initiatives and student leadership initiatives

b) actively develops partnerships with other Student Affairs and Services teams (e.g., Counselling and Student Support and Conduct) and other Faculties and departments to implement sexual violence prevention initiatives

c) collaborates with key campus partners and stakeholders (e.g., Athletics & Recreation, Human Resources) to educate all students and the College community on the link between fostering a campus of consent, learning and student success

d) liaises with other post-secondary institutions provincially and nationally to share best practices and partner on joint program and campaign development

e) actively develops partnerships with community, provincial and national health promotion and sexual violence prevention organizations to create access to resources and participation in on-campus events and training

f) collaborates with the Student Affairs and Services Communication Officer to create marketing and promotion for all sexual violence awareness programming

g) responds to external and internal requests for information

4. Performs other related duties including but not limited to:

a) assists the Manager of the department when requested

b) represents the department at internal and external meetings as requested
To Be Successful in this Role You Will Need

1. Bachelor’s degree in Health Education, Counselling, Social Work, Gender Studies, Sociology or related field; Master’s degree preferred.

2. A minimum of two years related work experience in sexual violence education, program development or an equivalent combination of education, training and experience.

3. Demonstrated experience and expertise in developing and implementing student-focused or youth-focused sexual violence prevention programming based on best practices that promotes a culture of consent on campus and a safer, more inclusive environment for all students.

4. Demonstrated experience and expertise in the design and delivery of sexual violence awareness educational materials. Previous experience in formal curriculum development would be an asset.

5. Knowledge of sexual violence response and program efficacy in post-secondary settings with diverse student populations and familiarity with relevant provincial and post-secondary policies/mandates.

6. Experience creating and implementing assessments such as surveys, focus groups, etc. and applying results to create customized programming that meets the needs of the College population.

7. Demonstrated ability to engage in challenging conversations around sensitive topics such as sexual violence and consent.

8. Demonstrated ability to identify and implement initiatives or projects that align with and support departmental and institutional strategic plans.

9. Experience with data-driven, evidence based decision making and proven ability to conduct formal and informal needs assessments and program evaluations.

10. Demonstrated experience speaking in front of small and large groups in informal and formal settings.

11. Demonstrated ability to supervise student staff and volunteers to achieve assigned deadlines.

12. Excellent communication, interpersonal skills including a good working knowledge of the English language (written and verbal). Demonstrated ability to interact and respond both verbally and in writing in order to deal effectively and tactfully with the public, students, partners and College employees, especially under pressure.

13. Experience working with diverse communities.

14. Excellent planning, organizing and problem-solving skills.

15. Proven ability to work within in a team and independently with a minimum of supervision and an ability to establish priorities and achieve deadlines.

16. Demonstrated ability to conduct oneself in a professional manner the reflects positively on the department and the College.

17. Demonstrated proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite (Office 365, Word, Excel, PowerPoint) and database management.

18. Valid B.C. Drivers’ license or access to a reliable transportation to accommodate activities at all campuses.
