The Shaft Engineering Intern will report directly to the Shaft General Foreman in the Mine Maintenance Department.

This is a 16-month internship that begins in May 2022 (with potential for earlier start date). This employment opportunity is part of Nutrien’s Indigenous Internship Program and is intended to introduce a voluntary self-identified Indigenous student or recent graduate to a professional work experience at Nutrien.

What you will do:

  • Provide technical support to the Shaft Department in transitioning data entry systems
  • Build out assets and bills of material for the shaft and hoist areas
  • Work with trades and operations personnel on implementing digital reporting platforms
  • Assist Shaft Planner(s) with the procurement of materials for shaft activities
  • Assist the Shaft General Foreman with reporting Production Hoist Utilization and Availability
  • Work in both the office and the field

What you will bring:

  • Must be currently enrolled and have completed a minimum of 2 years’ education in an Engineering program (Mechanical, Electrical, Mining or Geological) OR a minimum of 1 year in a Mining Technology program
  • Experience working in a mining or industrial environment is preferred
  • Exceptional interpersonal, teamwork and communication skills are essential
  • Demonstrate positive safety behavior and safety leadership
  • Ability to work safely and effectively in a team environment as well as independently
  • Willingness to learn and gain adequate knowledge and experience through training

General knowledge of potash operations would be an asset but not required * Knowledge and use of SAP and Oracle EAM type business systems would be an asset
