Responsibilities:
Leading 1-3 team(s) of 5+ engineers with the goal of building tools and providing support to empower teams to build and manage innovative, digital solutions.
Provide feedback, career coaching and participate in talent and succession planning.
Encourage innovation, implementation of cutting-edge technologies, inclusion, outside of the box thinking, teamwork, self-organization and diversity
Lead teams to:
Design and build tools with a strong focus on developer experience, engineering excellence and software craftsmanship.
Take our Continuous Integration and Continuous Delivery practice to the next level by leveraging and building on OSS tools that run in the Cloud.
Automate away routine and repetitive tasks with well written and well tested tools.
Advocate, mentor, and level up DevOps best practices with the engineers you support through empathy and good communication skills. Teaching them to fish, not just giving them fish.
Support the continued professionalization of the engineering practice in the studio with effective communication and advocacy in public speaking, presentations, documentation, etc.
Provide support for the Canada engineering teams by troubleshooting and resolving software, pipeline, and infrastructure related issues with an eye to automating those issues away.
Help us advocate and expand software resiliency, secure coding practices, and chaos engineering.
Explore and evaluate new and emerging software tools, technologies, and practices.
Basic Qualifications:
At least 10 years of experience as a hands-on software engineer preferably using Java/Python or other object-oriented programming languages
At least 10 years of experience with application and/or data design, architecture and development
At least 3 years of experience leading a team within an agile environment
At least 1 year of experience providing direct people leadership including talent development, performance management, team building and succession planning
Demonstrated experience and success pursuing best practices for teams of software engineers
Preferred Qualifications:
Experience leading multiple teams (2-3 teams consisting of 5+ associates)
Experience working with cloud computing and infrastructure as code.
Experience scripting/building internal tools that increase the productivity of other product teams.
Hands-on experience authoring tools/scripts to automate tedious tasks, like deployment, using a high level programming language(s) (Python, Ruby, GoLang, Javascript/Node.js, Java, etc).
Hands-on experience with configuration management and infrastructure automation tools (Ansible/Chef/Puppet/etc and Terraform/CloudFormation/etc).
Hands-on experience providing support to Engineers, i.e. troubleshooting failed builds, troubleshooting dev/qa/prod issues.
Experience with Docker and container orchestrators.
Working experience building, configuring and deploying applications to AWS.
Proficiency on the command line with a good knowledge of various Linux utilities for debugging and automation purposes.
Experience using and building continuous integration tools like Jenkins and Jenkins shared libraries.
Experience in a variety of open source database technologies (Postgres, DynamoDB, InfluxDB, etc).
Experience leading in an Agile environment (Scrum/Kanban) managing team workload and tasks effectively through issue tracking systems (JIRA/GitHub/etc).
Bachelor’s Degree and/or Master’s Degree in Computer Science, Information Systems or Engineering
