Job description: What is the opportunity?

The Senior Director, TI Strategy will be responsible for overseeing the strategic management team (SMT) which will play a critical function in the effective implementation of the 5 year TI strategy. Through expert counsel, thought leadership and extensive industry experience in Technology Infrastructure the incumbent will be responsible for key outcomes to enable TI continued optimization as a customer and service centric organization while promoting scale and efficiency.

In partnership with each TI pillar the TI strategic management team’s key priorities include:

  • Enable ‘one’ TI strategy aligned to business outcomes and innovation in the space
  • Prioritize high value initiatives and ensure established KPI’s and outcomes are achieved through an adaptive and agile approach
  • Generate awareness and buy in for TI strategy internally & externally through effective communication and collaboration

This is aligned to TI/T&O critical business outcomes of Client Experience, One RBC, Speed to Market, High Availability and Cost Transparency and Efficiency Levers.

Role Specifics:

  • Direct Reports: 3 to 6
  • Indirect Reports: 10 – 15

What will you do?

  • Strategy Thought Leadership:
  • Act as the main point of contact for the SMT for reporting / escalating/ providing recommendations
  • Ensures that the strategic initiatives for each TI pillar are in line with overall TI strategy and goals
  • Is a strategic partner by providing support and guidance to TI pillars to help deliver on their strategies
  • Provide subject matter expert advice and solutions to TI’s Senior Management Teams to optimize and drive business performance, to provide superior client experience, and to execute transformational initiatives with excellence
  • Strategic visionary who proposes & challenges initiatives & ensures alignment with business needs & future outlook on strategy
  • Escalates challenges/barriers/delays to senior leadership and suggests mitigation actions wherever possible
  • Ensures progress of strategic initiatives, financial performance, and value delivered to ensure timelines are met within budget
  • Provide overall guidance and direction to strategic initiative engagement teams by engaging in problem solving sessions, to push their thinking and drive to compelling, actionable, and fact base-driven solutions that help catalyze change at RBC
  • Drive business leaders to build change leadership capability
  • Stakeholder Management:
  • Responsible for owning overall TI Strategy by building a deep understanding of the strategic priorities and alignment across all TI pillars
  • Build and maintain extremely strong relationships with TI pillars heads; be the trusted advisor
  • Build a deep knowledge base of the platform and help to stitch together an enterprise view for key business partners, always championing a One-RBC approach
  • Leverage knowledge and experience to conduct impactful conversations with senior executives
  • Ability to monitor, listen and adapt to different situations and interactions
  • Conflict resolution to ensure alignment and success on overall goals and approach
  • Governance & Oversight:
  • Lead all SMT meetings and provides overall strategic direction to SMT
  • Key escalation point to solve any issues faced by SMT
  • Overall responsibility to ensure engagements are delivered on time and achieve the impact required in conjunction with the TI pillar head accountability.
  • Continued partnership with each pillar and alignment with pillar heads
  • Leadership & People Development:
  • Manage, coach & develop the SMT
  • Collaborate, partner and share best practices across TI
  • Contribute to Leadership Development, Talent & Succession planning

What do you need to succeed?

Must have:

  • 10+ years of experience developing and applying some of the leading practices in:
  • Technology Strategy
  • Leading teams that delivered transformational change in a large, matrixed environment
  • Business strategy roles
  • 7+ years of People management experience; expert ability to partner and impact senior leaders in large, complex, matrix organizations
  • Strong strategic thinking and Business Leadership – is perceived as a thought leader by senior Executives and keen ability to facilitate the development of a vision for the overall success of a specific business area, or function
  • Superior relationship management, facilitation, presentation and negotiation skills; demonstrate the RBC Leadership Capabilities and Key Behaviors
  • Behavioural Skills:
