Job Description:
This job is ideal for you if you are someone who:
- has knowledge of insurance products, including how values are calculated,
- has effective communication skills, both verbally and in written form;
- enjoys taking code apart and putting it back together, and
- is self-motivated and able to think outside the box.
This is an exciting and interactive position on an individual life and health insurance team. It is a contract position with a possibility of becoming permanent.
You will have the opportunity to build illustration tools and maintain existing tools.
The Inforce Illustrations team is a small team that supports and collaborates with a team in operations to deliver projected policy values for all of Sun Life’s products that require illustrations.
You will be responsible for understanding the business requirements as well as insurance policy calculations and then analyzing and modifying code.
You will also recommend applications and architectures that provide the flexibility required for all illustration scenarios but that is also sustainable for the future.
What you will do:
In conjunction with your team members, you will:
- develop tools to project illustration values
debug problems with existing tools * provide unique solutions when needs cannot be met with existing tools
Your excellent communication skills will allow you to effectively:
- consult with stakeholders on the operations team to understand issues
- understand and identify changes and requirements with project teams
- create and execute thorough test strategies and test plans
- present or train others on how to use tools
What you need to succeed:
- Self-motivation, adaptability and ability to think outside the box.
- Knowledge of insurance industry (including how values are calculated) and its products
- Strong communication skills (both oral and written)
- Excellent knowledge of MS Excel (including macros), Word
- Programming
- Undergraduate degree in actuarial science, mathematics or statistics
- Strong interpersonal skills and the ability to work with a team
- Strong analytical and problem-solving skills
- Ability to write efficient VB/Excel logic, reverse engineer and debug code.
- Experience with building new tools with complicated calculations
- Willing to learn new technologies or reverse engineer old coding languages
- Ability to meet multiple deadlines under tight timelines
- Exceptional attention to detail
Assets:
- 5 years of experience in similar role

The Base Pay range is for the primary location for which the job is posted. It may vary depending on the work location of the successful candidate or other factors. In addition to Base Pay, eligible Sun Life employees participate in various incentive plans, payment under which is discretionary and subject to individual and company performance. Certain sales focused roles have sales incentive plans based on individual or group sales results.
