WHAT IS THE OPPORTUNITY

RBC QEX is seeking a talented and passionate Performance Engineering (PE) Expert to join our QEX product engineering team. QEX provides in house solutions to support enterprise-wide performance engineering activities. As part of this we are looking for a PE Expert to help us enhance our ongoing engagements with the various Lines of Businesses and enable various quality engineering teams within RBC to leverage our expertise for their Performance testing. Also this role will be responsible to integrate other DevOps tools with our PE tools

WHAT WILL YOU DO?

  • Provide subject matter specialist knowledge and thought leadership on performance testing and chaos engineering best practices and industry standards
  • Drive adoption of performance testing tools across the enterprise
  • Lead the functional design requirements for inhouse performance testing tools as needed and work with developers to enhance inhouse products
  • Develop holistic enterprise-wide reports for performance testing to drive better decision making across teams and leadership
  • Participates in the review of existing process, techniques, tools, test methodologies, design, approach, and strategy for continuous improvement in the performance engineering
  • You should be able to determine performance testing scope in newer engagements by performing project artifact reviews and through discussions with the project teams
  • Introduce Performance testing in areas that are currently lacking by working closely with the application teams
  • Writes, revises, verifies, and enforces performance testing standards across the community
  • Participate in the assessment of new performance test tools to determine fit in the environment
  • Provide training/ coaching to the broader community on performance testing tools and standards. Will be working, hands on the PE tools and share expertise with the community
  • Mentors, coaches, and monitors junior team members
  • Look for opportunities to disrupt from within and continually expand what is possible through technology

WHAT DO YOU NEED TO SUCCEED

Must Have:

  • 10+ years’ experience in performance testing and engineering
  • Must possess a strong knowledge of enterprise application architecture and technologies including web, web services, databases, middleware and messaging
  • Hands on experience performance testing of UI based applications, desktop applications, web services, middleware, and batch processes
  • Must have hands on experience with Dynatrace, Loadrunner, JMeter or similar and be able to create/enhance performance test scripts
  • Must be able to create and validate load test scripts in at least three of the following protocols: HTTP, SOAP, REST, ODBC, MQ’s, KAFKA
  • Must be able to perform in-depth analysis of load tests both in real-time during test execution and post run to determine test validity, discover the root-cause of any errors or failures, and report on any performance issues or defects
  • Hands-on ability to plan, script, and execute performance tests based on requirements
  • Hands-on ability to interpret and analyze performance test results
  • Should possess an understanding of agile software development and implementation methodologies
  • Hands-on experience with performance monitoring tools
  • Ability to identify performance issues or bottlenecks and provide recommendations to tune systems for optimal performance
  • Must have worked with integrating Performance Testing tools with other testing tools to enable metrics capture within a test case management tool (qTest)
  • Exposure and experience working in a DevOps and multi-cloud environment

Nice to Have:

  • Experience working in a containerized (e.g., Docker, Kubernetes, rkt, Swarm, etc.) cloud environment
  • Experience in modern CI/CD practices
  • Understanding of Chaos engineering is a plus
  • Familiarity with Elasticsearch, Logstash and Kibana (ELK)
