Job description: What is the opportunity?

In this role you will drive Quality Engineering initiatives, manage the QE team, be accountable for the successful execution of QE practices & processes, and support QE transformation initiatives. You will support the overall QE strategy across the RBC Insurance Technology portfolio to ensue teams meet objectives. You will also drive test and process automation to improve the team’s efficiencies at different phases of testing. In addition to QE management role, you will be working closely with Development Managers and Application Owners to increase efficiencies and promote automation and innovations.

What will you do?

  • Manage QE team members in terms of HR responsibilities, work program planning and project assignments.
  • Responsible managing test teams and aligning to RBC Quality Engineering practices
  • Manage resources and vendor coordination, driving alignment with RBC practices and efficient usage
  • Build rapport with team members, stakeholders and business partners using a variety of techniques and collaboration from initiation to close
  • Resolve conflicts/issues and escalates others as appropriate
  • Provide coaching and direction to build team capabilities in Agile, QE, DevOps and other RBC processes and practices
  • Design and execute continuous improvement of processes to nurture team productivity
  • Promote a mindset for sustained success, growth and diversity
  • Accountable for maximizing automation for all project functional testing deliverables in portfolio
  • Partner with Application Development Directors to integrate quality engineering mindset/concepts within the DevOps framework/pipeline
  • Accountable for coverage and efficiency in program/projects test plans within area of control

What do you need to succeed?

Must-have

  • Computer Engineering, Computer Science, related (technical) degree/diploma, or related breadth of experience.
  • Requires 7 to 10 years of related experience, with 3 to 5 years of people management experience
  • Strong Insurance business domain knowledge
  • Hands-on experience in developing and implementing efficient test strategies focused on automation
  • Experience leading test case design at different levels, test optimization and automation efforts and identifying automation opportunities
  • Knowledge of DevOps operations and test integration processes and tools
  • Experience in a variety of test automation frameworks/tools e.g., (unit test frameworks, Soap UI. Robot Framework, Test NG, Cucumber) and script development using scripting languages (e.g., Java, Python, Bash, etc.)
  • Ability to influence teams to manage technical changes (process, tools, etc.) within program/project/ecosystem

Nice-to-have

  • Experience as a developer
  • Experience with cloud solutions such as ElasticSearch and Kafka and frameworks such as Spring
  • Experience in vendor management
  • Certifications: PMP, ISTQB
  • Performance testing background
  • Experience in testing insurance applications and systems
