The Ministry of Forests, Lands and Natural Resource Operations is responsible for stewardship of Provincial Crown land and natural resources, and protection of B.C.’s archaeological and heritage resources. Overseeing a land base of 94.8 million hectares, the Ministry supports the sustainable management of forest, mineral and land resources, the prosperity, viability and competitiveness of industries that use them, and public access for a wide range of activities such as hunting, fishing and recreation. The Ministry is responsible for policy development, operational management and implementation, and oversees over 50 statutes and associated regulations.

As a Stewardship Technician, you will provide a range of technical evaluation and advisory services to support decisions on the use of natural resources, and the achievement of resource management objectives.

Job Requirements:
In order to be considered for this position, your application must clearly demonstrate how you meet the education, experience and professional designation requirement as outlined below:

  • Diploma or equivalent in the natural resource field.
  • Minimum 2 years experience in a related resource management field.
  • Registered, or immediately eligible (within six months) for registration as a Registered Forest Technologist with the Association of B.C. Forest Professionals.
  • Preference may be given to candidates with forest health and/or bark beetle management experience.
  • Preference may be given to candidates with experience working with GIS.

Provisos/Willingness Statements:

  • Valid B.C. driver’s licence or equivalent.
  • Meet safety standards of Work Safe BC.
  • May be required to operate a variety of equipment.
  • Conduct field work which may include travel to remote areas by vehicle, boat, air or foot, overnight or extended stay in rough camp conditions and outdoor work in all weather conditions.
  • Carry equipment and supplies in difficult terrain.

A Criminal Record Check (CRC) will be required.

APPLICATION REQUIREMENTS:

Professional Designation: YES – Please include your registration number in your application. You must be registered (or immediately eligible for registration) as a Forest Technologist (RFT) with the Association of BC Forest Professionals. Note: immediately eligible for registration is defined as being able to transfer a current membership from an applicable jurisdiction. Applicants must confirm their eligibility with the ABCFP. Confirmation of registration/eligibility will be required before an offer of employment can be made.
