The University of Winnipeg, Technology Solutions Centre – Business Solutions Department seeks an experienced System Administrator to provide ongoing and project related administration of the System environments. This role requires strong analytic and organizational skills with the ability to adapt to an ever-changing environment.

We are looking for an individual who excels in the M365 environments but also able to work with new and legacy systems. This is a business-facing role where the customer impact is important and always top of mind when making changes to the existing environments.

This is a full-time permanent position in Winnipeg, MB.

Responsibilities:

  • Maintain the overall quality of Business Solutions Application Systems including system administration, maintenance & troubleshooting, project management, and facilitation & coordination.
  • Determines and implements system setup and configuration requirements.
  • Collaborates to plan and lead the implementation of major technical or functional upgrades. Gathers & documents cost estimates, hardware requirements, and system impacts.
  • Acts as the main point of contact with vendors.
  • Writes technical procedural documentation.
  • Participates in the development of technical data architectures.
  • Provides technical consulting to TSC and clients related to application systems management.
  • Acts as a subject matter expert consultant within the Technology Solutions Centre. Including backup support when needed.
  • Performs Trouble Ticket investigation and analysis for Administration & Management Systems.
  • Provides 2nd level support to end users and Service Desk
  • Collaborates with the Technology Infrastructure team on designs and solutions from a client impact perspective on new and existing applications.
  • Builds what if scenarios that correspond to risks to our users when configuration changes are proposed.
  • Participates in testing changes to existing systems due to patches, upgrades or general modifications.

Qualifications:

  • University degree in computer science or related discipline, or community college diploma program completion in computer science.
  • Certification in Microsoft platforms (M365).
  • Technical skills training and upgrading ongoing throughout career.
  • A Minimum of 5 years working/managing and configuring in an M365 environment including working with Azure AD, Microsoft suite of apps (Outlook, Teams and SharePoint).
  • Experience working in a post-secondary educational institution would be considered an asset.
  • Minimum of 5 years administering applications or systems at an enterprise level.
  • Extensive experience with Microsoft SQL Server and SQL database structure on an enterprise level.
  • SaaS environments (configuring, using and optimizing).
  • Project management fundamentals supplemented with at least 10 years of experience working in a project-based environment.
  • Working knowledge of SuSe Linux, Tomcat.
  • Knowledge of Unidata, Silverlight, and Microsoft Management Console an asset.
  • Knowledge of Java.

An equivalent combination of education, experience, skills, knowledge and abilities may be considered.
