The Opportunity
We currently have an opening for a Deployment Consultant within the National Technology Department in our Toronto office. The person in this position will report to the National Technology Deployment Manager. The Deployment Consultant has primary responsibility of the deployment of new technology solutions across all McDonald’s Canada restaurants, which entail the following objectives:
- Ensure all assigned new technology solutions are successfully implemented
- Document and communicate all matters related to these technologies
- Budget control and accountability for the performance of the deployment initiatives
- Measure and communicate the performance of the Technology Services Providers on specific deployment activities
- Work with the Technology Services Providers on the development and execution of project plans
- Act as a liaison on issues relating to implementation of technologies
- Develop new processes and procedures to further enhance the successful use of technologies in the restaurants

Principal Accountabilities
In addition to following McDonald’s policies and procedures, principal accountabilities include, but are not limited to:
- Identify and document technical requirements for various software, hardware and infrastructure solutions. Document related pilot and deployment approach. Execute the said approach.
- Conduct knowledge-transfer and training sessions with outside partner/vendors’ technical resources
- Follow Technology Change Management procedures to introduce, communicate and execute changes
- Facilitate regular project meetings and follow up with team members (both internal and external) as required to focus on business and operational issues or technical issues.
- Document, assign and monitor all project issues to ensure clearance with minimal impact to project progress
- Provide leadership to cross-functional and cross-vendor project teams
- Work closely with our business solutions partners to devise business and technology requirements, incorporate the requirements into contract agreements, assist in contract negotiations and execute appropriate McDonald’s certified Point of Sale and Back Office technology solutions, ensuring operational standards and customer satisfaction.
- Work with our business solutions partners to ensure timely communication and resolution of installation deficiencies
- Work closely with internal Development and Quality Assurance teams to develop testing and pilot strategies and cases for new solutions
- Communicate with restaurant management at restaurants participating in deployment pilots to explain the purpose of the pilot, impact to the restaurant and guide through required testing acquiring feedback required for the overall success of each deployment pilot.
- Provide advice and guidance to internal clients (Operations, Field Service and Owner/Operators) on current hardware and software requirements and options to determine best fit for their technology needs
- Ensure that Deployment Manager is kept informed of project progress and that issues are escalated appropriately in a timely manner
- Track progress on multiple projects and activities, reporting status to Directors and Vice President
- Post and update content on internal bilingual web site for a large and varied audience including Franchisees, Operations, Field Service and vendors
Qualifications
- The experience:
o Minimum of 5 years relevant experience in the retail industry, and post-secondary education specifically related to business or systems engineering.
o 2-5 years of experience working in fast-paced and multi-functional matrix organizations.
o Detailed understanding of Restaurant Technology and Restaurant Operations; experience working in high-paced Retail & Quick-Serve Restaurant industry is a major asset.
o Ability to identify, document and articulate business and technical requirements.
o Demonstrated experience in executing contract agreements; vendor management, contract negotiations, and contract management * The education: Post-secondary education with a focus on Project Management, Digital, Business, Operations and/or Marketing; Strong aptitude for project management, with PMP certification.
- Technical skills: Experience working with different web-based PM tools (ex. Basecamp, JIRA, Confluence, etc.) Microsoft Office experience at an advanced level. Experience with Agile principles, with DASM certification.
- Collaborative and communication skills: Excellent written, oral, interpersonal, and presentation skills and the ability to effectively interface with management, staff, and external partners.
- Innovative problem-solving skills: Critical thinker and ability to escalate when assistance is needed in a timely manner.
- Project management experience: Organized with the ability to make critical decisions to execute project activities without error. Detail oriented with the ability to work independently, and with others in the context of a team. Ability to innovate and develop processes to ensure the right steps are taken to deliver high-quality
