ABOUT THE POSITION

The Technology Designer in either our LA, Oakland, or San Diego office will design cutting edge, deep green buildings in one or more of the following areas: Audio/Visual Design, Network Infrastructure Engineering, Project AV Engineering, or Technology Project Engineering.

The position will design technology systems from your specialization and coordinate and learn additional areas including audio/visual, telephone/data, security, access control, clock/PA, nurse call, and CATV for sustainable higher education, science & technology, healthcare, mission-critical, and commercial building projects.

ESSENTIAL RESPONSIBILITIES & SKILLS

• Collaborate with multi-discipline project teams to develop drawing and specification documents for issuance to architects, contractors and building owners
• Plan project resources, maintaining schedules and budget
• Attend project progress meetings, provide updates for Project Manager including field reviews to monitor project construction status
• Coordinate technology requirements with other disciplines involved in the project design team (i.e. Owners, Architects, MEP engineers, Structural Consultants, Code Consultants, Geotechnical Consultants, etc.)
• Coordinate or confirm service requirements/connections with the respective service utility and/or municipal agencies
• Actively listen to resolve concerns or conflict within teams and clients
• Specify all required equipment and components for Cabling, AV and Security for fully and complete biddable documents (CSI specifications and drawings)
• Develop Rough order magnitude budgets for system selected
• Review and respond to RFIs and Submittals from Contractors
• Develop Preliminary load calculations for Telecom rooms, AV and Security equipment
• Coordinate power and cooling requirements with engineers
• Coordinate equipment locations with architect and design team (e.g. displays, speakers, microphones, projectors, and other AV components)
• Survey and evaluate existing conditions
• Mentor and share work experience and knowledge with employees and teams
• Other tasks as needed to ensure timely and thorough support to our clients

QUALIFICATIONS

• 5+ years of experience in any of these specializations: Cabling design, Security system design, or IT technology
• Bachelor’s degree in Architectural Engineering, Electrical Engineering or equivalent combination of education and/or experience
• Highly skilled in Revit and AutoCAD
• Ability to read Technology, Architectural, Structural, Electrical drawings
• Practical knowledge of at least one or two building, electrical, fire codes and CTS, BCSI and PSP standards, and familiarity or interest in learning the others
• Certification in either CTS-D, RCDD, or PSP highly preferred
• Strong communication skills – written and oral
• Strong time management skills
• Project Management experience
• Experience with sustainable design
• Environmentally-minded
