Job title: VP, Quantitative Risk

Job description: The VP, Quantitative Risk is responsible for embedding a robust Risk Management Framework within Canada and providing business leaders with Risk’s independent insight, challenge and opinion on key business decisions and the aggregate risk profile.

What you will do?

  • Provide leadership for the Internal Model Independent Validation (IMIV) of Aviva Canada, acting as the IMIV Lead.
  • Provide specialist technical insight and analysis of the financial and insurance risk profile monitoring through the review and challenge of reports and analysis performed by the first line of defense.
  • Partnering with the CRO, encourage effective management of key risks and embedding of risk culture
  • Contribute to the development of the Aviva risk framework in relation to financial, insurance and model risks, economic capital, and quantitative risk appetite metrics.
  • Develop and implement a Risk Analytics strategy in collaboration with Data Science and Corporate Actuarial, with the aim of improving insights to support business decisions through enhanced data visualization and sophisticated data analytics/mining.
  • Local oversight of the model governance and the independent validation of models (internal model and other material models).
  • Participate in reviews on quantitative and qualitative topics, with special emphasis on the technical aspects of insurance risks, financial risks and capital.
  • Accountable for the annual review of Financial Event Response Plan, Capital and Liquidity Risk Appetite, Financial Risk Tolerances and Triggers.
  • Collaborate with Finance and Corporate Actuarial to ensure that the capital risk metrics and analyses support the risk management framework.
  • Partner with Surety and Finance teams to strengthen the risk framework and opine on their risk management proposals.
  • Work with the Risk Leadership team to ensure the ORSA processes are conducted in accordance with regulatory requirements; support production of an ORSA report.

What you’ll bring:

  • Bachelor’s degree in actuarial science, mathematics, statistics, or equivalent with 15+ years in Insurance
  • FCIA designation or equivalent.
  • An understanding of economic capital, investment management, financial reporting, insurance principles and practices is required.
